Editor:It occurs to me that the Jim Webb campaign for U.S. Senate has made a major point of Webb's service as Secretary of the Navy, and practically never mentions his service as Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs.
Of his four years in the Reagan administration, Webb spent three years in this post, and his impact was very significant.
As a U.S. Navy Reserve sailor with 27 years of service (10 active-duty, 17 Reserve) I have seen the enormous improvement to the Reserve force that began under the Reagan administration. Mr. Webb took us from a force of limited capability and made us into a vital part of the service. Simply said, the United States cannot go to war without us (as happened in Vietnam ).
Jim Webb led the expansion of the Reserve force into a well-equipped, well-trained organization whose personnel, in many cases, are indistinguishable from our active-duty counterparts.I have been mobilized three times: Desert Storm, Bosnia and Iraqi Freedom. In each case, I reported to my overseas assignment ready to go to work from day one. In some cases I brought valuable skills to the fight that my regular counterparts did not have.
Jim Webb's leadership was critical to this improvement, and it should be highlighted. A lifetime of national service has earned him my ongoing respect.

I agree. In addition to Jim's record as Secretary of the Navy, we must include his three year record as Assistant Secretary of Defense. It is clear who should be the next Senator from Virginia.
Folks, we are going to have bad days and good days over the next 5 weeks - this is a campaign, and it is as tough as it is important. Let's sail through them, smile, brightly, and GOTV! Get thee to a campaign office if you have not already done so, and let's get Jim webb elected as the next Senator of Virginia!

Okay, Webbites, if you want to do a better Colbert sign for the blog, you can:
I think as badly as the Army and marines have been used, waht we have done to the Guard and reserves is worse, and this touches people even more than the regular active duty forces .. I think there is real advantage to Jim talking directly from his expertise.
