"Allen Dodges Foley" Watch set to kick off (Day 5!)

Mark Foley resigned on Sept. 29.  Has George Allen said anything about this matter, aside from where he's dumping Foley's tainted donations?  Has he said anything about the man who gave him campaign dollars and fundraisers?  Has he said a word about the cover-up by the House GOP leadership?  A word about Hastert?  Boehner?  Anything? 

I've searched around Allen's websites and Google News.  Nothing.  If someone can find something and post it in the comments, I'll stand corrected.

If not, I'm kicking off the Allen Dodges Foley Watch at Day 5.  And I'm wondering when the Virginia media will ask the most power Virginia Republican running for reelection about this damning Republican congressional scandal.

[UPDATE: Any comment on the likely involvement of fellow Virginia Republicans Tom Davis and Eric Cantor?]

[UPDATE by Lowell: According to George Stephanopolous, who I just saw on ABC Evening News, sources are telling him that Dennis Hastert might not last the week as Speaker, and also that the top Republican leadership has turned into "every man for himself" and a "circular firing squad."  Why do images of rats and sinking ships keep popping into my head all of a sudden?]

He said, in answer to a follow-up question from a reporter about whether the scandal would affect his campaign, "it has nothing to do with my campaign".

Very few people showed up to see him in Augusta County.  So maybe he got his answer - yes it does.

I actually went to Allen's Roanoke event today (va.walter - 10/4/2006 11:12:59 PM)
(was covering it so I missed Webb's event with the Kiwanis).  Anyway, Jay Warren asked him about Foley and Allen talked about it for 4 minutes (way too long).  Punchline was that he said he wanted a full inhouse and outside investigation and that he believed Foley should be in prison.  He also mentioned his ad about "protecting kids from online predators."  He was not asked about nor did he mention donations.  Mudcat and a new tracker were there so it's on video.


Allen also made an interesting proposal (va.walter - 10/5/2006 8:45:24 AM)
He proposed that any legislator who commits a crime like this while in office should lose their Congressional pension.  He called it a "dishonorable discharge."  No specifics  but interesting.

Speaking out against Foley... I could even count it in favor of Allen for keeping his trap shut until more is known. With all the rats jumping ship like mad, he's almost like a hero of a B-western :)

What I'm more interested in is the money trail.

Everyone (except Katie Harris down in Florida, but she's always been a tad "diffrent" )is shedding Foley's money (or has promised to). At one website, the process was called "ex-foleyating" :)

What's really intriguing is who they're giving the money to. Some are giving it to worthy charities (shelters for homeles, shelters for abused women and children, etc). Some are returning it directly to Foley's PAC (both Mehlman and Reynolds have said they'd be delighted to take over Foley's PAC money).

Some -- Allen included -- are directing the money to "unspecified charities". Very clever. Even if they *do* disgorge the cash (and, in Allen's case, a piddly 2thou won't make much of a dent), there's nothing to say they won't give it to someone like Dobson or Perkins who'll launder it and deliver it right back -- nicely pressed, too.

I'd like for someone who's likely to run into Allen soon to ask *just where* his "folly-money" is going...
