See Allen's staffer act like a middle schooler. The life of a political tracker isn't easy, just ask me! I'm the new Siddarth, the new Macaca, doing my job tracking Allen's job for the Webb campaign. Everyone does it -- also see pix of Allen's tracker on the Webb campaign. Joan VT

Such a contrast (Eric - 10/4/2006 2:49:56 PM)
to how the Allen tracker is treated. While the Allen tracker isn't always greeted with open arms, he's always treated with respect. There are even photos of Webb supporters laughing and smiling with him.
But perhaps the staffer wasn't blocking your shot - maybe this guy was trying to block Allen's view of you. We all know what could happen when Allen locks on to a tracker, so this staffer might have been trying to save his boss from himself.
Best of luck to you Joan VT - and keep that camera rolling because Allen or one of his staff are sure to do something stupid.
Species: Doofus, white male (Teddy - 10/4/2006 3:16:41 PM)
Doofus, white male species, is characterized by self-righteous arrogance, self-importance, and smart-ass attitude; often sports a bald spot. Known for trying to provoke or intimidate anyone to whom he or his boss takes a dislike. Yes, you definitely have sighted the white male Doofus.
I am sure he was disappointed when he could not get a reaction from you, but at least he can report to his Big Boss Bird that he frustrated the recording of said Boss Bird's precious words. So someone got some satisfaction. Wonder how many more sightings there will be of this doofus? Or, maybe another one will fly in to help Big Boss Bird. Maybe they think you'll quit if frustrated enough???
staffer (tony1 - 10/4/2006 3:39:53 PM)
That's Dan Allen. Former NRSC - Scott Howell dude ... a senior adviser.
Has to be a member of the Allen campaign...just following Allen's wonderful example....too bad Allen didn't grow up in the South.
If he had Allen and his staff would have better manners...like.ummm...like Jim Webb and his campaign staff.
Southerners are known for their hospitality not rudeness...Too bad Allen, with his infatuation of the Confederacy didn't learn about Southern Charm and Hospitality.
I think you are probably lucky that Allen or one of his staffers didn't spit tobacco juice on you....
Buzz...Buzz...

I believe I remember that Allen tracker (beachydem - 10/4/2006 5:26:34 PM)
Wasn't he at the Hampton Roads Webb Office opening? I saw him in the parking lot with a video camera, but never remember seeing him inside. Maybe the HUGE CROWD scared him away?
Good job Joan VT, and thanks for the crosspost Roadette !
If that indeed was a staffer getting in Joan's way, I would presume it's intentional, as any staffer would be aware of WHERE EVERY FREAKING CAMERA in the building was ! Besides no courteous person intentionally jumps in front of cameras. So perhaps, he didn't want you see a) a poorly attended event (compared to Webbs') or b) he just didn't like you Joanie :p
I hope you don't travel alone, I do worry about Allen's goons :(
Very poor attendance at Shenandoah Airport (Bubby - 10/4/2006 6:12:44 PM)
There were less than 50 people there, including cops, aides, press and staffers. As Allen noted, he has consistently gotten his highest majorities in Rockingham and Augusta Counties. So this was his home turf. And yet, he got Landes, and a BOS, plus some local business types, and maybe 10 campaign workers. No real rank and file. I would estimate that he got maybe 12 regular citizens.
I found his pimping a gold star mother to be really crass - him standing there saying that her sacrifice would be honored with full victory in Iraq, that was wrong. He used her, and she seemed to be clueless about it.
Holy Sh*t (vote-left - 10/4/2006 5:28:40 PM)
David Corn today (who also disapproves of the practice) writes that a list of Gay Republican aides is making the rounds. He has the list but is not publishing it.
[...]
What's interesting about The List--which includes nine chiefs of staffs, two press secretaries, and two directors of communications--is that (if it's acucurate) it shows that some of the religious right's favorite representatives and senators have gay staffers helping them advance their political careers and agendas. These include Representative Katherine Harris and Henry Hyde and Senators Bill Frist, George Allen, Mitch McConnell and Rick Santorum.
Well, good for them! (phriendlyjaime - 10/4/2006 5:48:56 PM)
There should be no one who has a problem with gay staffers, or employees, or family members, or friends, or neighbors, etc. I see where you are going, that their beloved christian base will be pissed if true, but I actually applaud them for being fair and non discriminatory. We don't need to make this an issue.
I agree to an extent... (vote-left - 10/4/2006 5:58:10 PM)
But, what I am getting out of it, is that by sending around The List, some anit-gay repubs (the gay-haters) may be outing the gay-friendly repubs (or possibly some who are in-the-closet).
In essence, another possible internal republican battle. Chaos ensues within the party when they think they are losing control.
It seems... (vote-left - 10/4/2006 8:54:34 PM)
...democrats.com agrees with me:
Before it's over, the whole "sick" Republican Party - closeted gay and perverted straight - could well be exposed - and swept out of office en masse.
The republican's stories have changed so many times, there is no question that they are in the middle of a chinese firing squad, outing each other.
Republicans and gays (Arturo - 10/5/2006 7:52:18 AM)
Maybe this will finally change the way Republicans look at gays and lesbians. Who knows, we may even see some Republican lawmakers supporting GLBT issues. It will be interesting to see how the religious right will react to "The List" and outing of Republican reps and staff.
Maybe a monopod would help (RayH - 10/5/2006 9:25:25 AM)
You could mount the camera on a monopod, direct the viewscreen downwards (if so equipped), and hold it above your antagonist's head.
Or you could just (Eric - 10/5/2006 9:42:46 AM)
shove the monopod up his... nevermind, Ray's idea is better.
