Allen returning SOME of Foley-tainted contributions

After getting blasted by the DSCC for holding on to the money, Allen repeated his delayed Abramoff and Rudy dumpoffs by jettisoning thousands of dollars obtained from disgraced congressman Mark Foley.

But Foley helped raise funds for Allen too (as the picture shows), so Allen's coffers are rife with Foley's fingerprints.  And, looks like the NRCC, which has given many thousands of dollars to Allen, is keeping the $550K that Foley has given it

Will Allen keep all this Foley-tainted money?

John over at Americablog has this stunning story:http://americablog.b...

Conservative icon Richard Viguerie calls on House Republican leadership to resign
by John in DC - 10/04/2006 12:06:00 PM

Richard Viguerie is one of the founders of the conservative movement. It doesn't get any bigger than this, short of Ronald Reagan speaking out from the afterlife. I just received an email from Viguerie to his email list, to which I subscribe. The email is entitled:
"Viguerie Calls for Immediate Resignation of House GOP Leaders"

These are the high points.

1. Calls GOP leadership "enablers" to Foley's offense.
Viguerie stated that any public official who takes advantage of a page or intern – someone to whom they are “in loco parentis” (in the place of a parent) – should be treated the same as a teacher or member of the clergy who commits a similar act. “And anyone who covers up such behavior should have the full wraith of the authorities and of the public fall upon them, because they are the enablers who made it possible.”

2. Calls Speaker Hastert's call for a Justice Dept investigation a possible "cover up."
He said that calls for a Justice Department investigation “could be part of an effort to cover this up until after the election. Once an investigation is under way, they may claim, falsely, that they can’t comment on an ongoing investigation.” He said House GOP leaders must “tell the American people the truth right now, not sweep it under the rug for the next six weeks.”

3. House GOP leaders will do "whatever it takes to hold onto power," no matter how "despicable."
Said Viguerie: “This isn’t an isolated situation. It is only the most recent example of Republican House leaders doing whatever it takes to hold onto power. If it means spending billions of taxpayers’ dollars on questionable projects, they’ll do it. If it means covering up the most despicable actions of a colleague, they’ll do it.”

4. House GOP leaders have "lost their moral rudder."
“They’ve lost their moral rudder,” Viguerie said of any House leaders who tolerated Foley’s behavior.

In other news - - -

A neighbor of mine just told me she met a mother and son yesterday who have always voted Republican.  The mom is 94.  The mom said she never voted for FDR.  They both said they were not going to vote for George Allen "because of what he said to that fine young man."

Another Great GOP Morals Guy: Don Sherwood and His Friends (PM - 10/4/2006 2:11:30 PM)
Don Sherwood is the Pennsylvania congressman who had an extramarital affair with a much younger woman, who accused him of trying to strangle her.  They settled out of court.

His faltering campaign just got much needed money help through a visit from VP Cheney.  http://www.thetimes-...

cheney1906

Now taking the high moral ground, Sherwood said in an interview with his local paper that as to the Foley affair,  http://www.thetimes-...

Rep. Don Sherwood, R-Tunkhannock Township, said anyone who had prior knowledge of a Florida congressman’s sexually explicit messages to a former teenage page should be “smoked out” and held responsible.

I don't really know how to introduce this next paragraph.  Is there an ICON for irony?  Hypocrisy?  Anyway, here is the next paragraph in that story:

His remarks came Tuesday as House Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, campaigned with Mr. Sherwood at a private fundraiser at Montdale Country Club in Scott Township.

And, as you might expect:

Mr. Boehner declined to speak with the media.

Strangle???? (TurnVirginiaBlue - 10/4/2006 2:20:47 PM)
What?  She wouldn't behave one day and after he had his fun, go away?

Oh man, that really shows his character.  I'd be blasting that one from kingdom come and back again.

More on Sherwood (PM - 10/4/2006 3:08:41 PM)
Some rating notes on Sherwood from a NE Pennsylvania blogger:http://gort42.blogsp...

The Christian Coalition of America gives Sherwood an 84 percent rating for voting with the coalition's positions on legislative issues.

The American Conservative Union rates him at 88 percent.

The American Family Association gives Sherwood a perfect 100-percent rating.

That blog quotes the settlement story from the Wiles Barre Times Leader:ore

U.S. Rep. Don Sherwood and the woman who said he beat her throughout their five-year affair settled a lawsuit Tuesday. A three-sentence press release issued by Sherwood spokesman Paul Clark said Ore and Sherwood, R-Tunkhannock, "have resolved their differences and the lawsuit will be dismissed." Terms of the settlement are confidential," the statement said. "The parties will have no further comment.”

It alleged years of abuse by the married congressman, who admits to having a five-year affair with Ore, but denies ever assaulting her. The lawsuit stated Sherwood repeatedly struck Ore on her face, neck, chest and back; violently yanked her hair; and tried to strangle her by placing his hands around her neck. It also says Sherwood threatened to harm Ore if she talked to police about the alleged abuse.

Israel Ruiz, a Metropolitan police officer who took photos of Ore during that second investigation, told the Times Leader he believed Sherwood should have been arrested. He said the congressman was given preferential treatment because of his political position.

Just Saw this (pitin - 10/4/2006 2:12:58 PM)
over at Virginia Polical Blogs, found it amussing, Foley is hurting all Republicans, even in Virginia.
