George Allen's friend Tony Perkins: Tolerance and diversity ruined Foley

As Dave Barry sometimes says, "I am not making this up."  Remember Tony Perkins, the host of the FRC Action conference before which our junior Senator spoke on Sept. 23?  Commenting on the Foley affair, Perkins said on CNN:

It's outrageous; it's shocking. But it shouldn't be totally surprising when we hold up tolerance and diversity as the guidepost for public life, this is what you end up getting.

Bet you had to read that a second time.  Surreal.  Here's the rest of his staement:

PERKINS: Oh, I -- there's no defense of this behavior. It's outrageous; it's shocking. But it shouldn't be totally surprising when we hold up tolerance and diversity as the guidepost for public life, this is what you end up getting. A congressman chasing 16-year- old boys down the halls of Congress; it's a shame. It's a tragedy and it does need to be addressed but not just the symptoms here.

We need to go to the source of the problem. And if the leadership was negligent, it should be dealt with and it should be dealt with in the most severe way possible. But what prevented the leadership from acting? Were they fearful of acting because they would be seen as homophobic or gay bashing?

Remember that Perkins was the one who bought David Duke's mailing list, and spoke to the Council of Conservative Citizens just a few years ago.

New NBC/WSJ poll shows more GOP slippage--some of the polling occurred after Foleygate started.

A key result for me is the one asking if the Iraq War was helping the war on terror or hurting it.

Current results:

32% say helping; 46% say hurting

That a dramatic change from three weeks ago, when it was 33% saying helping, 32% saying hurting.

That's a big plus for Webb.

Yeah, let's talk issues Mr. Allen.
