The following was sent to me and is very disturbing. Stay tuned for more details as I receive them from my sources (bolding added for emphasis).
It has recently come to our attention that a prominent African American, a former Naval Officer, who served in three Republican Administrations and an ardent supporter of Jim Webb has been the recipient of a death threat. The Hon. Carlos C. Campbell, former Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development under President Reagan, had recently written several articles and "Letters to the Editor" critical of Sen. George Felix Allen. Proper law enforcement agencies have been notified and an investigation is ongoing.

Even without knowing the details, the best course of action for us is to write even more LTEs and keep speaking the truth whenever and however we can.

It fits in rather neatly with the reality of another "big" story - Foleygate. It seems the former page, now 17, who's email was the first inkling of what was going on, is also receiving death threats according to Rep. Rodney Alexander (R-LA).
I'd like to think it's an aberration. But clearly, it is not.
I have know Carlos for years, consider him a close and dear friend, and have the greatest respect for this accomplished business man, public servant, military veteran and gentleman.
I find this death threat absolutely disgusting and sincerely hope that whoever is responsible - the individual and any organization with whom the individual is associated - be publically exposed and prosecuted to the greatest extent of the law.
I know that we all wish Carlos the best and we thank him for his active support for Jim Webb.
I am saddened to hear of the death threat. A disturbing thing happened in a local delegates race last year. We had several reports of thuggish behavior by followers of the local right-wing candidate, e.g., pushing our campaign workers around physically.
However, remember the Republican operatives (thugs) who were flown to Miami to assault the election officials conducting a recount, thus scaring them into stopping? Now that Congress has kowtowed to Bush and passed the legislation permitting torture and ending habeas corpus for those designated by the President as a threat (whether they are American citizens or not), it is only a small step to personal assaults on those who stand in the way of total Bush power, or who fail to show proper subservience. Next will be the Disappearances. I am not joking, we may well have our own version of Germany's 1933 Krystallnacht---not, perhaps directly against Jewish shop owners but against those damned whiney liberals who help terrorists, if the neocon's power is really threatened. There are enough self-appointed Soldiers of God out there to act like this.
