Quote of the Day: "They are slime"

By: Lowell
Published On: 9/28/2006 7:17:36 AM

Refering to the Allen campaign's "politically motivated" allegations against Jim Webb regarding supposed use of the "n" word, the Webb campaign's press secretary, Kristian Denny Todd, has this to say in today's Washington Post:

They are pathetic individuals. They are beneath it. They are slime...Here we are trying to talk about the issues. They are completely and totally desperate.

You tell 'em, Kristian!

By the way, can this campaign degenerate any further?  And did we expect anything different with people like Dick Wad(hams), Chris LaSwiftBoatVita, and Scott "Hitler Ads" Howell in charge at Allen for Senate HQ?  Hmmmmm.

Lowell Feld is Netroots Coordinator for the Jim Webb for US Senate Campaign.  The ideas expressed here belong to Lowell Feld alone, and do not represent those of Jim Webb, his advisors, staff, or supporters.

Allen camp is starting to soil themselves... (Loudoun County Dem - 9/28/2006 7:26:01 AM)
Cragg said Webb told him the Watts story during a 1983 interview for a Vietnam veterans magazine. Cragg, who described himself as a Republican who would vote for Allen, did not include the story in his article. He provided a transcript of the interview, but the transcript does not contain the ROTC story. He said he still remembers the exchange vividly more than 20 years later.

Hmmm,

Cragg said he approached the Allen campaign through a friend after hearing Webb's answer to the Times-Dispatch reporter's question about using the N-word.

No corraboration, The Allen campaign trots this guy out (while the MANY people with accounts of Allen are coming from the media, not the Webb campaign)... I smell swiftboat and panic from the Allen Camp, but it's not like Chris LaCivita has ever done something like this before (Oh, right).

As I said before.... (bladerunner - 9/28/2006 8:14:28 AM)
when cornered the Allen camp will aim to neutralize. Whether it's right or wrong they'll get it out. It won't have the same credibility though. As for the media and others that are saying the campaign is gettig ugly. Ask anyone who has ever run against Scum bag Allen. He doesn't know how to run a respectable campaign. As stated, Webb is staying with issues and Allen digs dirt. Everyone in the political circle knows that Allen has no class--he's white trash. People that know his ways and still vote for him should be ashamed of themselves.

I guess this is my deer head moment (Doug Garnett-Deakin - 9/28/2006 8:22:20 AM)
Nice try, George.

Allen's defense: (Eric - 9/28/2006 8:27:18 AM)
1. Find Allen staffers and big time donors to attest to Allen's fine character and swear they never heard him being a racist.

2. Find friends of Allen to attack the accusers.

3. Find some Allen supporter who will throw the same story back at Webb.

4. Send a message to the A-Team and the paid hack (which Allen had to recruit) to blog like crazy that this shows Webb is worse than Allen, that RK was behind the deer head, that Webb supporters "can dish it out but can't take it", that the BS Allen supporter is legitimate while the many varied Allen accusers are clearly paid by Webb, RK, and NLS to say things they know aren't true.

It's a "by the book" slimefest from the Allen camp.

Honestly, I don't see this doing much damage to Webb in the classic sense.  But the more likely goal of Allen's team is to create an over-the-top negative atmosphere in order to suppress voter turnout.  The negativity combined with endless he said/she said will confuse and annoy the general voting population into staying home.  Advantage: Allen.

If they can't win fair and square (which they can't), Allen will try to trick Virginia into re-electing him.

Slime indeed.

They Are Slime!! (mmc0412 - 9/28/2006 8:33:19 AM)
And I am so sick of the Allen campaign victimizing women!  Let's review:

1) Nancy Reagan is SOOOO offended by Webb running the Reagan ad.  Nancy Reagan is one of the strongest women around.  She can speak for herself.  We haven't heard a second peep out of Nancy about the Reagan ad.  Gee George, if you really want to honor Nancy Reagan, why don't you do as Webb does and support her very worthy cause of Fed funding for embryonic stem cell research?

2) Several military women are still SOOOO offended by Webb's 27 year old article.  These are supposed to be strong military types.  I might argue they're not.  Regardless, George could really honor these women by doing what Webb did when he was Sec. of the Navy and support expanded roles in the military for women.

3) Susan Allen wouldn't marry a racist.  Oh puhleease!  Susan Allen can answer the question as to why she married such a clod.  Of course her answer will be scripted because the Allen campaign doesn't let women speak for themselves!

It's time to start connecting with voters (Arlington Tom - 9/28/2006 8:52:13 AM)
All this is silly and what one can expect from a rough and tumble campaign team. The republican play book is well known: Go negative and personal, turn disadvantage into voter confusion, call names, apply labels, scare them about taxes & national security.

Last night I saw a national democratic add in support of Cardin. When will the national folks begin to help us in Virginia? If they give up on red states like Virginia- one of the reds showing signs of being in play again-- we'll never have a hope of becoming the majority party nationally, and locally we can look forward to the mess in the state legislature as permanent state.

It seems to me, even republicans are getting tired of Allen- Now it's time for Jim to give voters a reason to vote for him. We need hard hitting frequent TV for the Fairfax/Loudon/PWC swing voters.

Go to DSCC Blog and e-mail Chuck Schumer and staff (Ken C. - 9/28/2006 9:36:58 AM)
Folks, the DSCC has a blog that several of us used to some effect (we like to think so anyway) during the primary to help push Chuck Schumer into an endorsement.  I posted there yesterday for the first time since the primary about this issue, (DSCC) assistance ($).  You have to join the DSCC if you are not already a member.  The blog has a strict and effective "Troll Patrol".  The link is http://www.fromthero...

4thegipper.. (drmontoya - 9/28/2006 4:15:04 PM)
your such a moron.

You Read the Letter (mmc0412 - 9/28/2006 4:16:07 PM)
1) Mrs. Reagan's letter wasn't even from Mrs. Reagan.  It was from a Reagan library staff member on behalf of Mrs. Reagan.  And, the letter indicated Mrs. Reagan did not want her husband associated with a negative ad.  It wasn't a negative ad.  Mrs. Reagan never saw the ad.  It's not running in California now is it?  I'm sure ol' Nancy has more appreciation for Webb now since he's on board with her worth cause.  Next you'll say it's not worthy.  Move on!

2) Where did I dismiss facts and not address the issue.  The issue is the HISTORY of the treatment of women.  Webb has recanted his 27 year old story by ACTIVELY promoting more positions for women in the military.  What has Allen done except victimize women?  Again, move on!

3) How do you know it wasn't scripted?  Are you Susan Allen?  Need proof please.  No proof, move on!

Can't believe Allen wants racism to stay in the news. (Bubby - 9/28/2006 8:59:41 AM)
He'll lose this fight.  The only record Allen is running on is his caddish, foul-mouthed, redneck past. He has completely given up the Presidential bid.

Bingo Eric...... (bladerunner - 9/28/2006 12:43:33 PM)
you hit it right on the head. Allen's camp wants to trick the voters into voting for him, by confusing them with false allegations. A sign of desperation from the A camp!!

Stop being a troll. (phriendlyjaime - 9/28/2006 3:53:53 PM)
Obviously, you are new to this whole blogging thing.  It is grounds for banning on most websites when a user goes to different threads and spams them by cutting and pasting the same comment over and over.  Enough already.

I think you should be banned, you aren't worth the time to respond to.

...just a troll (you enjoy peeing in the sandbox).

What I still don't get is why you are insisting on going down with Allen's sinking ship of a campaign when many conservatives (The Weekly Standard, William F Buckley, George Will, etc.) are fighting over who can abandon ship quickest.

How long can you tread water???

What Republican Values Do You Hold Dear? (mmc0412 - 9/28/2006 4:39:34 PM)
You don't vote for the guy with a good resume?  Why not?  That's pretty scary and shows exactly what is wrong with most Republicans today.  Do you really know what Republicans stand for today?  Their outrageous stand on the social issues switched me out of the party.  And yes, the Republican party HAS changed, not Jim Webb.

Republican values.... (4TheGipper - 9/28/2006 4:44:49 PM)
I don't want to be accused of cutting and pasting again or being redundant, but I posted those ideals elsewhere.  Since I like this site, I abiding by the rules.

I realize that irony is most likely lost on you but... (Loudoun County Dem - 9/28/2006 4:52:15 PM)
How can you vote for a guys changes his stripes every so often.

Grammer aside, It is amusing that someone with the blog name 4TheGipper would ask this since Ronald Reagan was a Democrat before becoming a republican...

It is not as ironic as the fact the Henry Kissenger has a Nobel Peace Prize but it is ironic.

No. You should be banned because (Eric - 9/28/2006 4:19:43 PM)
you're making intentionally misleading accusations that are easily disproven.  That's practically become the definition of an Allen blogger, but I digress.  Here are the stories on the front page right now...

My head hurts just thinking about it...

dammit 4thegipper!! (drmontoya - 9/28/2006 4:18:55 PM)
we want to talk about he issues.

like even chris matthews said, he'd like the VA senate race to talk more about Iraq.

but wait.. would Allen really really want to talk about the issues.

Your party has failed you. It's horrible you can't admit it. By your loyalty you have condoned thier behavior, and there actions.

Wow.

Being honest (4TheGipper - 9/28/2006 4:37:39 PM)
Can you honestly say that you agree with all the positions that your party has taken on every issue ever?  I doubt that.  I'll admit that there are things that I disagree with the Republican party, i.e. the large debt and excessive spending.  However, the core principles are still there.

And yes, I really want the candidates to focus on the issues.

Core principles? (drmontoya - 9/28/2006 4:57:47 PM)
Okay, not only am I a christian, father, husband, military veteran, virginian, but also a former republican.

I left, just like a lot of republicans are leaving either independent or to the democratic party.

Why, because the GOP has lost core principles.

People who stood for something like Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and Ike Eisenhower.

Those republicans are ones I can be proud of.

I supported Bush in 2000, but after enlisting in the Navy in 2001 serving made me see things differently.

And I am not alone.

I don't call lying to America about WMD, core principles.

I don't call saying in 01 we'd hunt and kill bin laden, and then in 04 and onward saying he's no longer important core principles.

I don't call auctioning off our ports to an arab nation dubai who has terrorists core principles.

I don't call making the largest increase of government spending core principles.

I dont' call ingnoring the constitution that I have fought for, and so many have fought and even died for core principles.

I don't call changing the geneva conventions so it protects yourself from charges, core principles.

I don't call giving illegal immagrants amnesty core principles.

I don't call not protection our borders core principles.

I don't call getting all of our contributions in campaigns from oil companies, while gas prices go up, and record profits soar core principles.

I don't call voting for your own payraise as politicians do, while my pay goes down core principles.

I don't call cutting miltary wages, by giving the military it's lowest payraise in over 14 years.

I don't call not voting for troop body armor, and having family member pay for it out of their own pocket core princples.

I don't call not listening to family members of those lost on 9/11 with everything they have asked for since then. budging to create a comission to investigate, refusing to testify, lying before the commisssion core principles.

I don't call calling dissenters in this country in the likes of those who appeased the nazi's questioning the patriotism of those of us who merely ask questions, and demand answers in A DEMOCRACY core principles.

George Washington, Abe Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Ike Eisenhower, and even Ronald Reagan are turning in thier graves because of how far from "freedom" we have come.

The GOP leadership talks about "core principles".

They divide us over gay marriage, abortion, faith, god, patriotism.

But this is just a distration, we have REAL problems in this country. Like our democracy eroding.

You want to talk about core principles, look at everything I have listed, and this is just the beginning.

I have faith, that someday you GOP loyalists will be sorry for how you have betrayed our national interests, our constitution, our democracy, and our future.

Don't talk to me about core principles.

WOW! (mmc0412 - 9/28/2006 5:01:00 PM)
Couldn't have said it better myself!  Thanks drmontoya!!

BA, You are troll rated... (Loudoun County Dem - 9/28/2006 4:57:33 PM)
...usually because you keep regurgitating stale repub talking points that have been previously debunked (often repeatedly).

That is one definition of a troll, thus you are troll rated.

Firstly, (blackamerican - 9/28/2006 5:25:01 PM)
I have no idea what a republican talking point is.  Secondly, I have stated many things on this site that can't be refuted unless of course the person reading it has a bias and does not want to hear the truth.  For example, I stated in this particular thread, that Webb is supported by a person by the name of Mr. Jones, who operates a website where you can buy a confederate flag for $15.00.  That is a fact.  But of course this comment will be rated troll.  Why, because some people are not interested in the truth just the biased opinions of the people they serve.

YAWN... (Loudoun County Dem - 9/28/2006 5:27:57 PM)

ba, confederate flag? (drmontoya - 9/28/2006 5:37:50 PM)
are you bitching about a webb supporter that sells confederate flags? what's that supposed to do.

your an idiot.

How can you even protest that when Allen has worn a confederate label pin almost his entire life.

or the fact, that he had a confederate flag in his offices from his law practice to governor.

And.. he does a bad job of acting like he's a southerner not only in person but in movies too.

(a) The Navy Cross is the second highest combat award given by the United States Navy, second only to the Medal of Honor. 203 combat veterans have been awarded the Navy Cross. One is James Webb

COMMENT HIDDEN (blackamerican - 9/28/2006 7:34:08 PM)

Do you know that... (Loudoun County Dem - 9/28/2006 8:26:16 PM)
...of all of the statues on the National Mall there is only one that includes an African American, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and the person who is, by far, most responsible for it containing an African American is Jim Webb?

Did you know that Jim Webb did 6 years of pro bono work clearing the name of an African American Marine, Sam Green, who had been dishonorably discharged for war crimes for which he was innocent? Webb continued for the last three years after Green had committed suicide to clear his name for his mothers sake.

So you won't vote for Webb because a fundraiser is being held in the home of a person who sells the confederate flag? Guilt by association?

According to The New Republic:

Images of Allen are like a Civil War version of Where's Waldo, with the Confederate flag replacing the bespectacled cartoon character. First, as The New Republic reported last week, there's the senior class photo from Palos Verdes High School with Allen wearing a Confederate flag pin ("Pin Prick," May 8). Now we learn that the Confederate flag appears as a decoration in Allen's first statewide ad, even though he has long maintained that the flag did not adorn his home after 1992.

Take your weak fastball home...

both sides of his mouth? (drmontoya - 9/28/2006 8:28:31 PM)
You must talking about George Allen.

If my hero, Martin Luther King Jr. were somehow alive today. and he could decide what candidate to support..

Do you really think he'd support George Allen.

And.. also BA.. Who does the NACCP support in this race?

Hmmmmm......
