Great Day in C-Ville with Webb, Grisham, King, Kaine, etc.

I just got back from Charlottesville after 2 1/2 hours of driving each way, so I'm not going to post much right now about today's office opening and Webb event with Stephen King, John Grisham, Governor Kaine, and about 1,000 people in the audience (note: there were 200 or so at the office opening, many of whom didn't go to the event with King, Grisham and Kaine).  For now, I'll just post some photos.  Tomorrow, a summary of this amazing day.

I think the real question is... (DanG - 9/25/2006 12:54:00 AM)
When is Grisham running for Congress?

Grisham said he has ZERO interest in running (Lowell - 9/25/2006 6:38:11 AM)
And no plans to ever do so.  It's too bad, because he'd make a great representative....at any level of government.

About 1,000 supporters of Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Jim Webb filled Charlottesville’s Paramount Theater on Sunday night to hear readings by Webb and best-selling authors John Grisham and Stephen King.

So many people - so much excitement. (Kathy Gerber - 9/25/2006 5:54:06 AM)
A few of those folks in Lowell's pictures are volunteering their time to help Jim Webb get elected.  In the 3rd picture down the woman in peach is Donna Goings.  Donna is _lots_ of fun.  The young man with dark hair and tie in the 4th and 5th pictures is Sean Douglas, a UVA student.  With him in the 5th picture with red hair is another UVA student, Keith, whose last name I don't remember.

David Toscano, Al Weed, Creigh Deeds, Fred Hudson - 5th CD Dems chair, Nelson Dems Dave Cole and John Hesselbart were all there.  Also, I had a chance to meet for the first time from RK Lowell, Ingrid and Jerry, Josh and son.  Sidarth was there, too, and that young man has an incredible presence.

OK, I know this is superficial of me, but I'm just going to say it.  Some of our young Dems are just movie star good-looking.  That's all there is to it.

I didn't go to the event, but *tried* to clean up the office a bit.  I talked for a while with a young man, Bryan, who signed up to volunteer for Jim Webb.  And he came a long way in a wheel chair to do just that.

And I met Jerome who, thank goodness, patiently unraveled a renegade carpet thread that fouled up the vacuum cleaner.  This was the most stubborn case of monofilament disaster I have ever witnessed.  Thanks, Jerome.

Main thing, Jim Webb spoke outside the office.  What energy!  He was psyched and so was the crowd.  There's so much more, so I look forward to reading what Lowell writes.

Oh, yes! The hottest item circulating in the crowd was a grassroots created bumper sticker. That's all I will say about it for now.

you missed me!! And I missed you!! (teacherken - 9/25/2006 9:33:14 AM)
although I did meet Susan Marriner.  I was the grey-haired and bearded gentleman with the Born Fighting Webb tshirt on, in case you happened to have seen it.

Got a chance to speak with Jim, with Creigh, and with old frend Al Weed.  Sorry I missed you.

And how could I forget this... (Kathy Gerber - 9/25/2006 6:52:09 AM)
A couple of folks were disappointed that the event was sold out when they tried to attend.  They took this in stride, came down to the office and made a donation to Webb for Senate instead.

Let's hear it for the grown-ups!!

Great photos! (Hugo Estrada - 9/25/2006 10:08:08 AM)
Nothing to make one happier than seeing young faces at political rallies :)

Where does one get the t-shirts (thegools - 9/25/2006 1:21:54 PM)
in the picture above, the ones with the Bumper sticker logo on them?

Thanks for the pictures.  If not for a 2 week old baby and a 2.5 year old son, to whom I am #1 entertainer,  I would be at more events like this.  I am glad to see the crowds.

The t-shirts that we have at the office (CrellMosetArisen - 9/25/2006 2:08:58 PM)
were actually all dropped off by Grisham (he bought them for all the ushers and staffers of the event).  I believe he purchased them off demstore.com.

T-shirts (thegools - 9/25/2006 4:42:21 PM)
are they the same as the ones being worn by the Girls holding the placards in the picture above?  If so how can I get one?

Are you (CrellMosetArisen - 9/25/2006 7:14:01 PM)
in the C'ville area?  If so, stop by the office tomorrow night between 5 and 8.  If you aren't able to, let me ask someone in the office and I'll get back to you!

I am in Warrenton. (thegools - 9/26/2006 12:44:27 PM)
I could send cash and give you my mailing address.

I checked with (CrellMosetArisen - 9/27/2006 2:13:49 PM)
Grisham's office, and this is where they got the ones that I passed out to the girls in the photos:

http://www2.demstore...

If that doesn't work, it's about halfway down on the page you get to by clicking "Webb (VA)" on the left hand column on the frontpage of www.demstore.com !

This really was (CrellMosetArisen - 9/25/2006 2:07:48 PM)
a fantastic event.  Although I was hobbling around all night (the result of a lightbulb-changing accident in the backroom of the office, there's gotta be a 'How many Webb staffers . . .' joke in there somewhere), the energy there was electric.  Jim was great, the volunteers were great, the fundraising event was great.  The Young Liberals who came out from Charlottesville High School were incredibly helpful, and I just can't heap enough praise on everyone who helped this event turn out so well.  Thanks guys!
