After his joke had warmed up the crowd, Miller got into the meat of his comments, namely that it's time for all of us to "unite together" and to support a candidate who will "focus on real issues for real Virginians." Miller praised Jim Webb's "ability to bring people together, to be inclusive," and said point blank, "I'm proud to be supporting Jim Webb for US Senate!"
Miller talked for a minute or two about his latest trip to China, and how that country isn't "playing for second place." Miller asked, "How do we meet that challenge?" An important part of the answer, in Miller's view, is to "find leaders with the right vision." Another part is to get America back to being "seen as a global leader by the rest of the world."
Miller joked about how, when Mark Warner became governor in 2001, he inherited a situation - from his Republican predecessors, Jim Gilmore and George Allen - that was so bad, he (Warner) thought about asking for a recount! Seriously, though, Miller noted that Mark Warner took over a terrible situation, with Virginia's finances nearly in ruins. Miller noted that Warner "could have been a partisan Democrat," but instead he chose the alternative of working for "real solutions to real problems for real Virginians." As a result, Warner returned Virginia to being the "#1 managed state in the United States." Obviously, that's what we need in the US Senate, and Jim Webb's the man to do it.
Thank you Harris Miller.
Perhaps Allen should have joined Miller in China so he (Allen) could get some of the real world experience he talking about.
Politics is politics, and its great to hear that you are still right on board. :)
