First of all, I'd have to say that the Webb Campaign has been having a hard time with the African-American community for a reason. He wrote that he had some qualms with the current incarnation of Affirmative Action. You know what? I agree with him mostly. I think that Affirmative Action can be completely unfair to whites at times. Dr. King spoke about making skin color a non-issue, but to me it seems that Affirmative Action just further points it out. I do think that there are ways to make Affirmative Action just, though, so my opinion is "Mend it or End it."
I think that's why Lambert endorsed Allen. Oh sure, you can say it's because he really supports Allen, but come on. One of the most liberal State Senators in Virginia supports one of the most Conservative Senators in the United States Senate? It doesn't make sense. Lambert's official explanation is that he supports George Allen because of what George Allen has done for historically black colleges and universities.
But the Washington Post article on this got my attention. It goes into what I believe is the real issue: Affirmative Action.
