Disturbing Allen Quote du Jour

From the same American Enterprise Online article I referenced earlier, here's a disturbing George Allen quote from 1995:

Probably another influence was the cow boss that I buckarooed for on a ranch near Winnemucca, Nevada. That was good: you just made your own rules, made your own laws there, you could do anything you wanted to do, really, and easily get away with it because there were no witnesses.

No witnesses?  You could do anything you wanted to do?  What on earth is George Allen talking about here?  This is bizarre.

Time to get the shovel (George Allen's Noose - 9/14/2006 6:42:50 PM)
and head out to Winnemucca. I'm fixin' to dig me up some secrets...

Seriously, he either buried some dead hookers or mutilated farm animals, that much is clear.

Sounds like Freshman Dorm.

he BUCKAROOED for??? (teacherken - 9/14/2006 6:54:56 PM)
come on, someone should be able to do something with that!

From www.thefreedictionary.com (lwumom - 9/14/2006 8:29:06 PM)
Buckaroo:

Noun 1. buckeroo - local names for a cowboy (`vaquero' is used especially in southwestern and central Texas and `buckaroo' is used especially in California)

I knew what the word meant - (teacherken - 9/15/2006 8:08:07 AM)
but for most people, the only recent usage would have been in the film with Peter Weller, John Lithgow,  and I think Ellen Barkin called Buckaroo Banzai - Beyond the Fifth Dimension.

The word has no meaning to most Virginians, except it does sound very much life a "fuax" cowboy image.  And given the connections with California, perhaps worth getting out in and LTE or two, especially to more rural papers?

If I were a cow, I'd be VERY afraid...

Yeee-hooo! (libra - 9/14/2006 8:50:54 PM)
Buckarooed, did he? And look at him now -- can't control a "really mild" (according to its owner) Painted Bubba... Sigh... That's what what years in office, where only your right hand (which takes in contributions and pays for them with votes) gets any exercise will do to ya... :)

He ought to go back there, to those care-free, responsibility-free, healthy, outdoors days (come to think of it, I think Bush would be happier also, if he could concentrate on brush-cutting, trout-fishing and yelling "air assault" from atop of a mountain bike).

As for Lowell's original question... I agree with GA's Noose; probably some really psychopathic sins buried out there in Nevada.
