While it would be easy for Democrats like us to bitterly think +óGé¼+ôI told you so+óGé¼-¥ upon hearing the consistent bad news out of Richmond, it is not acceptable for us to simply accept the utter failure of our General Assembly.
The Republican-controlled Assembly+óGé¼Gäós arrogance and mistakes are clogging our roads, destroying our budget, and causing great problems for us and our families.
We+óGé¼Gäóve been through battles together before. When people said it couldn+óGé¼Gäót be done, Virginia Democrats united around Mark Warner +óGé¼GÇ£ electing our most popular and effective governor in history. When the country+óGé¼Gäós political center shifted way to the right in 2005, we elected Democrat Tim Kaine as our governor. When I ran for Attorney General that same year, we came within a few votes of winning that race as well. And we all know that the work is not yet done.
It+óGé¼Gäós time we bring back some hope to the General Assembly. It+óGé¼Gäós time we work together to take back control of the House and the Senate! That+óGé¼Gäós why I+óGé¼Gäóm proud to announce the formation of my new political action committee +óGé¼GÇ£ the Future Deeds PAC +óGé¼GÇ£ an organization which will work to get Democrats elected to the Virginia General Assembly and bring us good governance once again.
And it+óGé¼Gäós not just the budget +óGé¼GÇ£ the Republican failures extend to numerous other issues as well. For example, we are living in the worst transportation crisis of our lives +óGé¼GÇ£ one that jeopardizes the quality of life in all of Virginia, and especially in the economic engines of Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads that have driven our vitality in the past few years. That is what the Republicans just do not get. While Virginians sit in traffic or watch factories and jobs move away in Southside and Southwest, the Republicans in the General Assembly sit on their hands and do nothing.
Republicans are so concerned with petty partisanship that they refuse to take on the real issues Virginians face. Simply for the sake of scoring points with right-wing special interests, these Republicans fail to lead. The lowest point came after the failed session of 2006, when one of their leaders in the House of Delegates claimed that the short-term pain of the extended session was worth the long-term gain of not coming up with a real plan to address transportation. This is simply unacceptable, and we must work for change.
At the end of the day, it+óGé¼Gäós about leadership. And it+óGé¼Gäós about excellence. It+óGé¼Gäós about working together, about working across the aisle, and about working to make Virginia the best place to live, work, and raise a family. It+óGé¼Gäós really that simple. As Virginians, we deal with real issues, and we need real leaders with real solutions in charge.
And that is the mission of the Future Deeds PAC: to elect a Democratic majority and real leadership in the Virginia General Assembly.
