Dems Crush Allen Online

Every so often I pay a visit to the Alexa site to see how a few select website traffic rankings look.

How are our Senate competitors doing? And how do the official sites compare to RK? Note: I'm not ignoring the rest of our Democratic/Progressive blogging friends - there are just too many to track 'em all here.

Site 1 week avg 3 month avg
WebbForSenate.com 211,423 293,946
GeorgeAllen.com 480,304 706,859
RaisingKaine.com 77,377 332,316
This is a ranking so lower is better.

Hmmm, not surprisingly Team Allen is lagging. This is consistent with previous visits to Alexa. Although all three sites have picked up traffic from last time - and they will certainly continue to pick up through the election.

Big questions:
Will GeorgeAllen.com ever catch up to WebbForSenate.com?

Will Allen's new blogger be able to rally the Republican grassroots (Note: his site currently has no info on Alexa) and have as much of an impact as the Democratic blogosphere?

Time will tell. But right now it's clear we, the Democratic/Progressive blogosphere, have the upper hand and that we've made a difference. And I don't just mean in these site usage statistics. Kudos to all and keep up the good great work.

Your numbers don't match your discussion. (wagonball - 9/13/2006 12:06:22 PM)

Lower numbers are better for rankings. n/t (phriendlyjaime - 9/13/2006 12:08:36 PM)

Let's review these numbers after another three months pass.  That way you may have a stronger point.  One month does not equal a trend.

Correction:  1 week

Yeah, the 1 week (Eric - 9/13/2006 12:54:50 PM)
average is a bit weak.  RK did have a big surge in hits last week so that explains why we're so far ahead by that metric.  So you're right about not looking too much into that number.

The three month averages are a much better indicator and still show stronger performance by the Dems.  But keep an eye out to see if the Republicans can catch up during the next two months.

Numbers (libra - 9/13/2006 10:42:42 PM)
My strenghts -- if any -- are in the areas of language and philosophy/logic; I'm a total idiot when it comes to math, statistics, etc (computers being, *definitely*, a part of the "etc").

What do the numbers represent? Hits per week? If so, then how can fewer be better? If something else -- what? After 6yrs of Boy George (and 23 of commie Poland long before that), I am reluctant to take anyone's word on anything, and that includes your "lower is better".

Please elucidate, because it sounds like doublespeak to me... :)

An aside... Webb's official website is *boring*; it doesn't even offer the occasional chuckle I get from Allen's attempts at joining the 21st century and the blogosphere, or from his posturing. I was almost ready to give up on it entirely (ie remove it from my addressbook; I can always find it via Google), when I found RK. I have kept it, but visit it only about once a week -- mostly to check on schedules, in case something pops up in my vicinity that I'm unaware of. RK, OTOH, is now on my "to visit daily" list.

The "numbers" in this (Eric - 9/13/2006 11:23:37 PM)
case are ranking/ordering - based on most visits I believe.  So the site in the world with the most visits is 1, second most visits 2, etc.

So being 300,000th most visited site doesn't sound great until you realize that this is the whole world.

Alexa is certainly not a perfect gauge but at least we're comparing apples to apples.
