What's A "Hoe Down?" George -- You Really Know Country Talk

George Allen is having a "hoe down" in a few weeks, with his guest being Laura Ingraham.  But there's no such word.  Here's the invitation:  https://www.donation...  "Sign Up Today to Join George Allen at the Hoe Down!" says his website.  I thought "hoe down" looked funny.  Dictionary.com says: "No results found for hoe down. Did you mean hoedown?"  Google says the same thing.  My unabridged Random House says it's one word.
But this is what I'd expect from someone born in southern California and raised in McLean Virginia, masquerading as some weird cowboy/Confederate/country boy combination.

It's "HOEDOWN."  And Laura Ingraham, born in Connecticut, and schooled at Dartmouth and UVA, ain't country either.

You might as well play Liberace tunes.

Ranchero also means cook or camp cook (PM - 9/12/2006 11:41:23 AM)
Ranchero has two meanings, one is rancher and one is "cook" -- so one translation is "great cook"

In fact, several online translators (which admittedly are pretty bad) translated "ranchero grande" as "great mess orderly"

I don't think they have any Spanish speakers on the campaign

let's have meat! (VA Breeze - 9/12/2006 4:26:59 PM)
Maybe this Hoedown is a way for George to wrangle up some more money from the beef companies. He has received $1000 from the National Cattlemen's Beef Assn. and $4000 from American Meat Institute. These groups are the main opponents to the ban on slaughtering horses in the US.(This bill is stuck in George's committee in the Senate.)
Wondering what will be served for dinner?
