A side note: In the Reagan officials "letter" I see that the "common sense" Allen campaign mantra was thrown into the mix.
This suggests, not too surprisingly, that this letter was probably written by a campaign staffer (likely with the explicit agreement of the Reagan officials).
A side note within a side note: Apparently "common sense" most poll very well. As in, doubling the national debt, voting with GW 97% of the time, and failing to ask tough questions before signing off on a war resolution equals "common sense". Very Orwellian.
Another bit that I noticed: "Interested media should contact the Allen campaign if they would like to speak with Laxalt, Meese or Duberstein."
Did the Allen campaign have any hand in this controversy? Of course not.
