George Allen: Senator from Hollywood?

Last month, during the infamous "macaca" incident, George Allen also made the claim that Jim Webb was raising money from a "bunch of Hollywood movie moguls."  Well, as it turns out, Allen is once again engaging in what psychologists call "projection."  I mean, seriously, not only did George Allen practically grow up in Hollywood and appear in a movie (*Gods and Generals") himself, it now turns out that "Allen ranks 16th among members of Congress in campaign contributions received from the entertainment industry during the past two years."

That's right, according to the nonprofit research group, Center for Responsive Politics, George Allen has received $93,350 from Walt Disney, Time Warner, Krikorian Premiere Theatres, etc. since 2004.  This is, by the way, almost 5 times the amount that Jim Webb has raised from the entertainment industry.

In other words, it looks like George "California Cowboy" Allen is the one who cares more about the "values of Hollywood" than "the values of Virginia."  But, of course, we knew that already.  This just puts it in dollars and cents.

[UPDATE: According to the Internet Movie Database, Jim Webb has produced one movie and written another, both about war and soldiers.  Dick Wad(hams) claims that Jim Webb has been a hollywood movie producer for 20 years, but, as usual, there's basically no evidence to back up the assertion.  What do you expect from a campaign that's totally out of touch with what really concerns the vast majority of Virginians (hint, it's not whether or not Jim Webb wrote the script for a war movie!]]

They're creepy and they're spooky,
Mysterious and kooky,
They're altogether ooky,
The Allen family.

Ba ba ba BUMP
  *snap, snap*

Let's see. We got Felix with a football on the beach (couldn't do much with it on the gridiron, what I hear), a TV in the cabana tuned to Fox News, along with a microphone and an electric guitar (where the hell are they plugging all this shit in?), plenty of sand for the cat (arg....must...not...descend to joke about burying Felix...), and of course, a sweet drink full of chunky fruit and one of those stupid paper umbrellas.
Welcome to America and the real world of Virginia.
Looks like SOMEBODY'S homesick for California and his surfer buddies.
Ahhhh. That was fun!

One man's projection (Newport News Dem - 9/6/2006 8:10:49 AM)
is another man's dishonest hypocrisy.

On the other hand, Allen may have thought he was plagiarizing Webb's FEC donation report.

Give me an H... (summercat - 9/6/2006 8:30:53 AM)
Now how is this delightful news going to get out to Allen's would-be supporters?
And, speaking of Hollywood--what about Arnold and Ronald?
Great work, Lowell!

Political Heroes: Thomas Jefferson, Ronald Reagan

And I think we all remember was industry Reagan was in . . .

Oh, Lowell, maybe you can run that pic again of georgy with Charlton Heston

Reagan got georgy involved in politics (PM - 9/6/2006 9:00:43 AM)
Allen: * * * But the one who motivated me to get involved in politics was Ronald Reagan. In fact, all of that comes back to football. When my father was with the Rams, he came in 1966, and that fall was when Ronald Reagan was elected governor. And he would actually come to practices. That's when I got to meet Governor Reagan. And then we moved to Virginia in late '70, '71 and I was telling everyone how great Ronald Reagan was. But I only took one political science class. I had no idea that I would actually get involved in politics. Well, in 1976 Ronald Reagan was running for president and they asked me to be chairman of Young Virginians for Reagan. I said, "Well, I don't know anything about organized politics." They said, "Well, we know you like Reagan." I said, "Of course, but I don't understand the intricacies of politics." They said, "You'll do fine, just tell people why you like Ronald Reagan." I did it, we won Virginia, and lost the national nomination. But that's what got me involved, Ronald Reagan.

Ha! He still doesn't get it. (Eric - 9/6/2006 9:23:52 AM)
"...I don't understand the intricacies of politics."

Yeah, it is kinda complicated to figure out if one should call an Indian-American "macaca" or not.  Or steal another senator's amendment.  Or call your opponent a Hollywood insider when you've taken plenty of movie money AND even been in a Hollywood movie.  Or... nevermind, that's already too intricate.

Nice catch, Lowell! (Dan - 9/6/2006 9:14:03 AM)
Another example of hypocrisy.  Allen's true self is being revealed.
