Stephen King and John Grisham plan to team up with fellow novelist James H. Webb for a Sept. 24 fundraiser in Charlottesville for Webb+óGé¼Gäós Democratic U.S. Senate campaign.
Pretty cool. Now, it's time for some bad puns and other plays on book titles. Will Stephen King's support for Jim Webb "Carrie" a lot of weight, fueling a "Storm of the Century" in Virginia, politically speaking? Will the receiving line at this event be a "Long Walk" or a "Dead Zone?" Will George Allen and Dick Wadhams feel "Misery" or "Rage" upon hearing news of this event? (quick answer: Wadhams has already attacked Jim Webb for reading, writing, and probably 'rithmetic too; hey Dick, has George Allen ever read a book in his life?).
As far as John Grisham is concerned, I wonder if he has a "Painted House" in Charlottesville, and whether this fundraiser will be "A Time to Kill" money-wise for the Webb campaign. Will Grisham be a major "Rainmaker" for Jim Webb with his "Summons" to Charlottesville? Oh, and what kind of food will Grisham serve? The king of "Torts?" Ha.
Anyway, this should be a great party which undoubtedly will attract a large crowd of Grisham, King and Webb fans. According to Bob Gibson, tickets will be $100, $500 and $2,100, and will be available right after Labor Day (note to Bob Gibson: Jim Webb's campaign headquarters is in Arlington, Virginia, not "on the Downtown Mall" - whoops!).
Great stuff, but that's not all. There's more "help on the way" for Webb, though. First, there's a major reception/fundraiser by Gov. Mark Warner on Thursday evening, September 21, at The Torpedo Factory in Old Town Alexandria. For more information on this event, contact Adam Schiff at aschiff@webbforsenate.com or at 703-778-4080 (x214). I was at a Torpedo Factor fundraiser last year for Tim Kaine, also with Mark Warner, and it was great. I'm sure this year's will be as well.
Second, it appears that DSCC (Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee) help is finally on its way. According to Jeff Schapiro and Peter Hardin in today's Richmond Times-Dispatch:
Sen. Charles E. Schumer of New York, head of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, said his group -- the political arm of the Senate Democratic Conference -- will donate an unspecified amount to Webb.[...]
"We think this is a neck-and-neck race," Schumer told report- ers when asked about the impact of the Allen controversy. "We plan to provide Jim Webb with the kinds of resources he needs to win."
Of course, Dick Wad(hams) respnded to this news in typical Dick Wadhams fashion, by attacking and by lying. According to Dick Wad(hams), Webb has "sold his soul to the left wing of the Democratic Party, and they will reward him for doing so." Hold on a second while I burst out laughing and roll around on the floor. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Sorry. Hahahahahahahahah. OK, I'm done. What a joke. Jim Webb, a man with more integrity than just about anyone I've ever met, a man who served as Ronald Reagan's Navy Secretary, a man who has never been a politician in his life, has now "sold his soul" for - GASP! - accepting money from his party, the Democratic Party? Yeah, Dick, that's real credible! On the other hand, I know that Jim Webb getting support from the Democratic Party is not as impressive as George Allen hanging out with white supremacists, but still.
Oh, and Dick? This is not the "left wing of the Democratic Party," this is the ENTIRE DEMOCRATIC PARTY that strongly supports Jim Webb for U.S. Senate. Just thought I'd point that out, not that you give a rat's ass or read the "left wing" political blogs. Ha.

Sen. George Allen (R-Va.) is scheduled to speak Sept. 9 at a rally for ethnic groups sponsored by the Fairfax County Republican Party, officials said yesterday.* * *
Allen apologized to Sidarth. Fairfax GOP Chairman Eric Lundberg said Allen had been previously scheduled to speak at the rally.
p.s. When a conservative says a Democratic group is wasting its money, he/she is very afraid of something.

*Caucasians
*European-Americans
*White male European-Americans and assorted Caucasians
Did I miss any? Ha.
Referring to Allen's "Macaca" gaffe, as well as another one by Montana senator Conrad Burns, Tara Wall, director of outreach communications for the Republican National Committee said: "These misstatements are not reflections on the (Republican) party. We've had a long-term commitment to inclusion."
Well, I have news for Ms. Wall -- nah, I'll be nice. Except to say that her first name is what the southern plantation was called in Gone with the Wind.
M: Too bad about Pluto.
Me: As long as they don't demote Goofy, too.
M: No. We're stuck with him until 2008.
Maybe they mean he is TIED with George F.allen.
Just would like to see the 3 polls above that you mentioned.
Thanks Lowell.

Wow.
I think we are going to beat you this year (that applies with George Allen, and the Tarheels). I'm about tired of not sweeping you guys. This will be our year. Hansborough. . . .
Tired of not sweeping us in basketball? You should be tired of losing to us in basketball. We've beaten you 16 of the last 20 games. Of the four times you beat us:
I. Battier Phantom Foul on Haywood in Cameron in 2001, ensuring a two point victory for UNC.
II. 2003 - victory in Chapel Hill (first time you'd won at home in 4 years) in which Dahntay Jones hit a half court shot that would have sent the game to overtime had he released it .2 seconds sooner. Highlight of the game was Andre Buckner shoving Matt Doherty into retirement.
III. 2005 - Victory at home in final game of season, in which Marvin gets a three point play to give Carolina the lead; still not sure where Christiansen fouled him.
IV. 2006 - you beat us in Cameron. Tough loss, but you then get your asses handed to you by Boston College and George Mason. Tough year when beating us is your only highlight.
I'd also point out that in these 8 years that we've beaten you 16 of 20 times, we've won 7 ACC championships. You've only played in the title game twice. Much like times where Bush tells the truth, Carolina victories over Duke are few and far between.
You throwing out Hansborough as a strength is about like Republicans touting Allen's experience as his asset. If you're going to talk up Carolina's strengths, at least try and look like you know what you're talking about and mention Lawson or Wright, because Hansborough isn't scaring anybody. McRoberts will destroy him now that he gets to play his natural position.
The only thing I find redeeming about UNC is how they vote. Being a Republican and a Tar Heel leaves you destined to a life of emptiness.
And, please keep winning the ACC championship and then choking in the NCAA. We don't mind that at all. . .
Roy to the rescue!
The one in the 50's happened pre-integration.
1982 happened pre 64 team era.
Modern Championships where you have to win 6 games? Duke 3, Carolina 2. May I note that the 93 title happened thanks to Chris Webber, and the 05 title happened thanks to phantom traveling call in the Regionals on Allen Ray. Any of the Duke title teams would have taken those two to school.
2. Even if you don't count 02 and 03, we're still 11-3 against you. And the fact that you had a team reach the abysmal mark of 8-20 tells you all you need to know about your program's 'dominance'. And don't even tell me its Doherty's fault, he inherited a botched team from Dean's chosen one Bill Guthridge.
3. Carolina blue is just past tense for Carolina blows.
4. Saying "Keep choking in the NCAA's" and following it with "Roy to the Rescue" is the epitome of hilarity. The definition of choking in the NCAA's belongs to Roy Williams and the number of botch jobs he had at Kansas.
5. And yes we'll keep winning the ACC title; we now have 16 to your 15. Frankly I think that true Carolina fans do mind, I've been at each ACC tournament the last 8 years, and I can testify that the sweetest part of each weekend (next to Duke winning of course) belongs to the look on the faces of those poor Rams Club members when they have to go home early. You argument on history shows why no Carolina fans are psychic, they can only talk about the past.
And he's a southern dem!
Two. JIM WEBB IS NOT A CARPETBAGGER!!
Why?
1) Jim's family is from Southwest Virginia. All of the Webb's are.
2) Jim Webb's dad was a WWII bomber pilot, so Webb was born in Missouri but only lived there from birth for only 3 months.
3) Jim Webb's dad was CAREER military, so they grew up on the move. He attended schools all over the US and Europe (UK, Germany) finally graduating in Bellvue, Nebraska where his dad was station at the Air Force Base.
4) After Graduating High school in nebraska, he went to his first year of college in southern california moving again before being accepted and transferred to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
5) Jim arrived in Virginia (where his cousins & kin) are from after graduation at the academy for training and his first assignemnt at the marine corps base in Quantico, Virginia right before being shipped out to Vietnam.
6) After vietnam, Jim Webb attended Georgetown Law School and took permanent residence in Northern Virginia.
7) All of Jim Webb's kids have been born in Virginia if I am not mistaken. Jim consider's Virginia his HOME.
George Allen was moved around too because of his dad's job as an NFL coach. But if you are talking who has more southern, or Virginian roots.
You can't even compare, Webb does hands down.
Ooorah!
