When Republicans Get Desperate!

This is utterly pathetic.  The boys at NLS cleverly (and skillfully) photoshop the faces of Mark Warner, Jim Webb and Tim Kaine onto this and the Allen campaign says it's "offensive?"  What on earth?  Since when has the Allen campaign gotten so squishy-sensitive "PC?"  Do Chris "Swift Boat" LaCivita and Dick Wad(hams) have no senses of humor or what?

For the Allen campaign's edification (sorry, George, that was a big word you've probably never seen meaning "education"), that movie - "+é-íThree Amigos!" - was a dumb, 1986 comedy with Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, and Martin Short.  Is the Allen campaign saying that THOSE guys are racists too?  How about Latina actress Patrice Martinez, who played Carmen in that movie?  Was she "offended" starring in "+é-íThree Amigos!?"

Oh, and the advertising tagline for the movie "Three Amigos" was "They're Down On Their Luck And Up To Their Necks In Senoritas, Margaritas, Banditos And Bullets!"  Maybe the Allen campaign slogan should be "They're Down on Their Luck and up to their Necks in LaCivitas, Macacas, Bush-itis and Bloggers!"

Ha. Ha. Ha.

P.S.  This is what REPUBLICANS do when they want to attack Democrats using "+é-íThree Amigos!

You would think... (Bubby - 8/24/2006 9:01:56 AM)
that a war chest of $10,000,000 would buy Allen better talent than this bunch of tin-ear advisors.  It looks like the campaign staff has found the medicine cabinet and is working their way through the oxycontin. Viva!

Don't give them advice Bubby! (Doug Garnett-Deakin - 8/24/2006 10:07:26 AM)
They are doing great just like they are! I love it. If Dick keeps pulling the pins on grenades and dropping them at his feat, I'm going to start feeling bad for him.

Just wait! (Bubby - 8/24/2006 10:30:52 AM)
Just wait until they get into the "California Beach Hippie"'s stash of Purple Haze.

Another False Issue (Mark - 8/24/2006 10:06:47 AM)
As if we needed something else to talk about since everything in this country is running so smoothly.......

Anything but the truth!!!

ROFL (I.Publius - 8/24/2006 3:52:41 PM)
Nice how you have to rely on a thesaurus to make your erroneous point about a definition.  Couldn't find "education" or "educate" in any dictionary entry for "edification" or "edify" huh?  That's not too surprising.  You won't, because it's not there, (with good reason, given that the two words mean different things).

:-)

But I'm glad you at least did a little English language research today.  It's good to know that some enlightenment resulted from this ridiculous post of Lowell's.

Well, actually it was (Eric - 8/24/2006 4:49:11 PM)
a bit of a shortcut for simplicity.  Plus, you were right, the exact word "education" doesn't appear in the dictionary version (see, I can admit when you're right).

But...

Using the dictionary definitions, per your preference, we get:

edify
To instruct especially so as to encourage intellectual, moral, or spiritual improvement.

Then, looking up the definition of "instruct" we get:
instruct
1. to furnish with knowledge, esp. by a systematic method; teach; train; educate.

Where we do find find that tricky word "educate", which is, of course, closely related to "education", which is the word in question.

So, by both dictionary and thesaurus definitions, the word and meaning of the sentence were properly used.

If you have a different definition, please feel free to educate, edify, or instruct the class.

The only ridiculous thing here (DanG - 8/24/2006 6:14:01 PM)
Is the desperationh ere of the Allen Campaign.  It went from the smooth, fuly functioning machine that it was only a month ago to a mess.  The M-word just keeps on giving and giving.

And don't hate on Eric for "spewing hate" against Allen when you yourself have spewed plenty on your own against Webb.  I have nothing against Conservatives, but everything against hypocrites.

If the best you can do right now is go after posters who make fun of ridiculous Allen Campaign goofs instead of our candidate himself, then maybe what the whole Allen Campaign needs is to just go on vacation for a week, and come back with a clean slate.

The Dood Abides (gordon - 8/24/2006 1:26:39 PM)
The Dood did "Three Amigos" first. Starring Bush, Rove and Scott McClellan way back on Nov 5, 05. And he did it better.
