Allen Contributions from California

George Allen likes to claim that Jim Webb has some sort of extensive ties to California, mainly because he has been involved in making movies based on his war novels. Anyway, I just thought it would be interesting to look at the ever-helpful FEC database to see what kind of contributions George Allen gets from his home state of California. Turns out, Allen gets a cable-car-full of contributions from the land of surfer dudes, Hollywood starlets and - in Allen's case - Confederate wannabes. Here are the listings just for last names starting in "A" and "B" - and only for 2005/2006. As you can see, George Allen has extensive ties to California, far more than Jim Webb could ever hope to have. Not that there's anything wrong with California, but George Allen seems to hate it, despite being born there and despite receiving wads of money from the Golden State. Weird.

Don't forget David Addington (mosquitopest - 8/19/2006 12:27:15 PM)
"The most powerful man you've never heard of."
George Allen is the ONLY one listed in the database who has received money from Addington since 1999,
He's Cheney's chief of staf and one of the main architects of the current torture policy of the Cheney/Bush Cabal.
He also was the architect for the signing statements policy that Bush is doing over at the White House.
Addington's legal interpretation of the president's powers equal the powers of a king.

Over the Limits? (Teddy - 8/19/2006 2:05:30 PM)
Over what period of time is this listing of donations? I thought $2,100 was the max allowed per person per candidate in a federal election--- and Allen did not have a priary, did he? What about those over that amount, or those which show two separate donations for the same donor name which total over that amount??? Or am I mistaken? Please explain that to me.
That's a good question, but I'm no expert at this. (Lowell - 8/19/2006 2:07:58 PM)
I can check around, but in the meantime, is there a campaign finance attorney in the house? :)
You are allowed $2,100 for the primary and $2,100 for the general election... n/t (Loudoun County Dem - 8/19/2006 4:25:33 PM)
You are allowed to collect for a primary even if it doesn't happen... (Loudoun County Dem - 8/19/2006 4:26:57 PM)
...since you cannot be certain that there will be no challenger.
Allen has recieved a crap load from CA (pitin - 8/20/2006 12:02:20 AM)
In Fact, according to
Political Money Line California is the second most generous state to the Allen Campaign, just after VA
05-06
2. California $452,201.00 524
03-04
2. California $51,600.00 46
and so on for each 2-year cycle, it's just embarrasing...
So, let's get this straight. (Lowell - 8/20/2006 8:18:18 AM)
George Allen mocks and ridicules California, where he grew up and where he gets much of his money from. And he denigrates Northern Virginia as not being part of the "real Virginia," even though he himself lives in NOVA (Mt. Vernon). Can we say, "psychological issues?" How about, "self loathing?"
We should ask Felix.... (Loudoun County Dem - 8/20/2006 8:44:37 AM)
