Look for lots of coverage in tomorrow's (Saturday's) issue of the Bristol Herald Courier and info online, including an interview with Webb, on www.tricities.com.
I'll post info and articles as they become available!

Did anyone here see Webb at today's events?

Jim received a warm welcome.

People just kept coming up wanting to shake his hand.

I look forward to Kathy Still's article in the BHC.

Webb says family ties to region have always been strong

WISE – People around here aren’t bigoted, and they don’t appreciate anyone who is, U.S. Senate hopeful Jim Webb said Friday.

U.S. Sen. George Allen’s recent racist comment to an Indian-American who works for the Webb campaign showed Allen doesn’t understand Southwest Virginia culture, he said.

"This is a very inclusive culture right here," the Democrat said during a visit to the Virginia-Kentucky District Fair. "It’s not a culture that likes to make all sorts of division."

I REALLY like this (Lowell - 8/19/2006 2:20:09 PM)
Webb said he was puzzled by Allen’s remark that "he’s never been (to Southwest Virginia) and probably will never come."

"George Allen says I don’t come down here," Webb said. "Well, that surprises Jewel (his cousin), since I’ve been coming down here for about 30 years. Isn’t that strange?"

Webb said his visit was not so much a campaign stop as a family vacation. His family ties to the region always have been strong, he said.

My guess is that Jim Webb has spent a LOT more time in his life in SWVA than George Allen has.  He certainly understands the region and the culture better than Allen, that's for damn sure!
