The slur and the lie

As part of his evolving and disintegrating excuse for his M-word scandal, George Allen is trying to pull a fast one on the media, blending in comments about Webb never visiting Southwest Virginia ("real Virginia", presumably).

While the media has flagged the insensitivity of the comment, more needs to be said about Allen's lies on where  Webb has and hasn't been.  His family is from Southwest Virginia, for cripes sake.

A blatant lie about an opponent is news too - the media needs to call George Allen out on both his offensiveness and his lie.

Family (Josh - 8/17/2006 2:13:20 PM)
I'll bet that if only family members could vote and voted only for their kin, Webb would win every Congressional district in Virginia.

This sounds like a job for Kenton.

Here's a list of possible diary topics if you're looking to keep the Allen story in the nwews

- Allen's Racist History - long, sordid personal and legislative career of suppressing blacks and other minorities
- Allen's Evolving Excuses - was it 'Mohawk' or 'Shithead'? Wait, I thought he didn't know what it meant? This ties into his long history of evading questions about racism (Anyone remember "It's more of a lasso"?)
- Who exactly has Allen apologized to? Allegedly, the 'Indian-American business leaders' that he met with and apologized to are Republican contractors. No personal apology as of yet. No REAL apology as of yet.
- Allen's a Fraud - we should know this one by heart
- Allen's a Bully - check out his sister's book

these are just a few, the more digging people do the more will be exposed. we know there's a lot out there, we just need to capitalize on this opportunity to publicize it.

But he's so much more! (K - 8/17/2006 2:34:36 PM)
Yeah, Allen's probably a racist and a bigot and lots more besides.

But I keep thinking ... anybody who would look at a camera and say those things is something else entirely. He's stupid, stupid, stupider than everybody's always said he is.

Personally (Matt in VA - 8/17/2006 2:37:59 PM)
I think he's just so cocky and complacent that he thought he would get away with it. Given his history, I can see why. He's gotten by with mumbled equivocations and half-apologies for waay. too. long.

Staffers (DukieDem - 8/17/2006 3:04:08 PM)
Anyone else think that the staffers may have been the ones calling Sidarth Macaca, and Allen just slipped up and repeated what he had heard them saying? This would add to a growing list of excuses:

1. Macaca sounds like Mohawk
2. Macaca was made up
3. Macaca is a a combination of "Mohawk" and "Shithead", as in the Shithead with the Mohawk.
4. I've not familiar with Macaca
5. I'm not smart enough to recognize a racial slur in my mother's native land, either proving that I'm stupid or just a bad son
6. My staff is racist although they are all 'real' Virginians

Which one is your favorite?

I can't be held responsible for what I said... (RayH - 8/17/2006 4:35:02 PM)

...I didn't know, I didn't mean it, it's not my fault, you're reading way too much into it, it was just an innocent mistake/doesn't mean anything, the staffers set me up, the devil made me do it, maybe I was drunk...
