And as an added bonus, we can see how just how visionary some RK comments are.
Last week Lowell posted the following article Allen Said He Didn+óGé¼Gäót Care About Affordable Housing Grants in which a rather unfortunate quote of Allen's comes to light.
[3] Allen said, +óGé¼+ôI don+óGé¼Gäót give a shit about Community Development Block Grants.+óGé¼-¥ [Roll Call, 3/7/95]
Turns out the date here is off by a decade - Allen actually was overheard saying this in 2005.
This all comes from a story in Roll Call by Mary Ann Akers called Penalty: Flag Down. To no one's surprise there was a dustup on RK between the usual suspects regarding the validity of that quote, where it came from, and even the date.
What's interesting and relevant to the recent macaca slur is how Allen's comments are explained:
...according to Allen's press secretary, David Snepp, who snapped (in good humor), "Your source is wrong, as usual." Ouch, Dave-O!Snepp said the Senators were talking about football, not Community Development Block Grants. And no bad words were uttered, he said.
"What Sen. Allen actually said was that 'I don't give a Dip about immunity for those who chop block Darnerien McCants. Virginia doesn't think that's very funny,'" Snepp deadpanned.
And the analysis...
Oh, now we get it. Shit, dip. Block grants, chop blocks. Community, immunity. Funny, money. We can see how our informant totally fouled that up.
So it seems Team Allen has a history of revisionist history. He's says whatever he wants and then, if caught, finds a way to re-phrase it. But the really funny thing this time is that his revision is just as bad as the original.
Now how's this for foreshadowing - a comment by va.walter on that very same thread 10 days ago. (bolding mine)
In the end, the Allen people actually made a joke about it which is easy to find on the internet....
Also, I've heard we're finally using a tracker to follow Allen. Even though a lot of folks derided Allen for this, I think it's a good idea and hopefully a sign that things are coming together.
As noted in previous posts, it sure didn't take long for Allen to hose himself real good. With a track record like this, can we expect a national faux pas and subsequent revision from Allen every month?
