Fox News Poll: 18-Point Lead for Democrats

According to a new Fox News poll, if the congressional elections were held today, 48% of registered voters would vote "for the Democratic candidate in your district," while only 30% would vote for "the Republican candidate in your district."  That's an 18-point lead for Democrats, the largest such lead since at least 1998, probably since the 1980s.  At least, I can't find a larger lead for Democrats looking at historical polls.  Amazing.

Even more amazing is that this question is asked specifically about "your district."  That's even more impressive than if it had just been the standard "generic" question about Democrat vs. Republican.  Stunningly, only 10% of respondents say, "I like my representative."  In contrast, 23% say "throw all the bums out," while 20% say "my vote shows opposition to President Bush."

The bottom line here is that if you're an incumbent Congresscritter, you should be worried, VERY worried.  Keep that in mind as you make your way along the campaign trail, George Allen and Tom Davis and Frank Wolf and Thelma Drake and Virgil Goode and...

18 points for dems... (demo925 - 8/10/2006 10:54:20 PM)
but webb is down by 16? so is Webb underperforming the den national average by 34 points?

Let's see what happens in coming polls... (Lowell - 8/11/2006 5:27:02 AM)
and on Election Day.

This refutes my (Eric - 8/11/2006 7:23:39 AM)
usual frustration with these polls - a little.  I'm glad to see that they're asking specifically about people's "own candidate".

We've got to keep in mind that Fox has a interest in pushing misleading polls.  Republicans panic and run to the polls, Democrats think they've got it in the bag and don't bother.  With a nearly 20 point lead that would probably be ok.  But say, for instance, Fox bumped those numbers a bit, and the lead was only a few points, that type of voter reaction could make a significant difference.  It's very easy to be misleading with statistics.

Maybe they're up to something, maybe not, I'm just sayin...

Fox News or Karl Rove? (snolan - 8/11/2006 10:46:11 AM)
So what's the difference between Fox "News" and Karl Rove?

Answer: One is funded by Rupert Murdoch, the other is funded by the American Taxpayer.

Seriously folks, we all know that Fox "news" is not as factual as a satire of the news called the Daily Show, right?
