A brief note from a happy supporter

I feel like most of the diaries I read written by people who've interacted with the Webb campaign are critical - constructive in intent, but critical nonetheless.  I wanted to put a brief note out there about how pleased I was with a response I'd received from the campaign.  I won't draw any grand conclusions about how effective the campaign is or will ultimately be based on my experience, but I also know that little things like getting the response one seeks can go a long ways in engaging current supporters and welcoming new ones into the fold.
About 10 days ago I went on the Webb campaign website to request my bumper sticker.

I don't live in Virginia, but I work there and so I commute out to Northern Virginia every day on 395 and briefly, 495.  I tool around Northern Virginia for work about once a day, running various errands for work or picking up a sandwich for lunch and as such, I thought having a bumper sticker on my car would be a very small, easy thing I could do to get Jim's name out there.

When I went to the website to request my bumper sticker I quickly found the appropriate request page, provided my address, signed up to receive emails (which I hardly need since I follow VA politics pretty closely) and then forgot about it.

What did I just find in my mailbox?  An envelope from the Webb campaign.  I assumed it would be an  ask for money and in so thinking, I was pleased that they had gotten my request and made that ask.  I was happy to give (https://secure.webbf...), or so I thought.  Instead, I found the bumper sticker I had requested!  Now, again, I know this isn't rocket science.  I requested a bumper sticker and, lo and behold, they sent me one.  Not a huge deal, except that it is.  I've worked on a number of campaigns in my relatively short career.  And while having such a request link is definitely expected, I am also keenly aware that these things can easily get lost.  If not lost, they often build up and it can take weeks and weeks to get that bumper sticker.

Like every person who has some campaign experience I'm sure I could offer my two cents about what the campaign could do better, but for now, I just want to say thanks, Team Webb.  I imagine a volunteer stuffed the envelope in which my bumper sticker was mailed - thanks to that person as well, who very well may read RaisingKaine, but might not either.  Even though this envelope didn't contain an ask, I went to the website and made a contribution (small as it may have been).  Maybe some of you will want to do the same (https://secure.webbf...), to make a small contribution ($5, $10) after reading this diary, with the knowledge that some aspects of the campaign are going exactly as they should be.  I hope you do.

I'm glad you got it (teacherken - 8/5/2006 8:08:07 PM)
I spent 5 hours in hdqtrs on Friday putting on stamps and return address stickers.  Others had already put on the to address stickers, put the bumper stickers in the envelopes and sealed them.

We mailed 1510 envelopes on Friday, and since we got them there before 5 PM, if you were in DC metro area you should have gotten them today.

Enoy.  Show it proudly.

You sure know how to walk the walk (Alicia - 8/5/2006 10:58:25 PM)
which I very much respect.

Thanks Ken (jjowers - 8/5/2006 11:13:11 PM)
1510 is such an awesome number!  Thank you for your work.  I'll be sure to follow your example in the near future.  You can be sure I will display it proudly.

Thanks a bunch (thegools - 8/7/2006 3:15:05 PM)
Someone has to do the work to get the things addressed, stuffed and posted.  Thanks to you and everyone else who did that.  Great Work.

Awesome. (phriendlyjaime - 8/7/2006 9:37:42 AM)
I was away all weekend without the use of the internet.  Looks like I missed more ridiculous and unneccessary infighting among Dems and this campaign.

I hope those of you who are keeping the faith will follow me and continue to work hard and volunteer, and stay out of the bitch sessions.  They are pointless, and they hurt the campaign.

Thanks teacherken for your hard work, and thanks jjowers for this important and insightful diary.
