From the Webb campaign:
Day 5: Give It Back George
It has now been five days since the Jim Webb for Senate campaign has called on George Allen to give back his $800,000 ill-gotten campaign contributions from Big Oil and energy companies. We will call on Allen to do so everyday until he does. This is what we know:
$44 Billion in Tax Breaks
(The total amount of tax breaks George Felix Allen voted to give bloated oil companies in his six year career in the US Senate)
Billions in Record Profits
(Throughout George Allen+óGé¼Gäós Senate term, Oil companies have recorded staggering record profits quarter after quarter +óGé¼GÇ£ they did not need tax breaks)
$800,000 in Payback
(The total amount of payback campaign contributions George Felix Allen has taken from oil and energy companies and their political networks)
$3.00 For a Gallon of Gas
(Americans have seen the price of a barrel of oil triple and the price of a gallon of gas at the pump shatter record after record)

As long as oil hovers around $75 a barrell, America will not be safe from Middle East extremists. No amount of military might or intelligence gathering can counter the impact of funneling billions of dollars towards states like Iran and Saudi Arabia. Webb should hammer this issue having impact on our economy, our environment, and our national security.
As long as we consume 21 million barrels per day (Lowell - 7/31/2006 12:36:48 PM)
and are "addicted" to oil, we will not be safe from Middle East extremists. In addition, as long as we consume 25% of the world's oil, we will be a huge, disproportionate contributor to disastrous global warming. We have to slash our oil consumption FAST; I completely agree with you.
Alternative fuels (lwumom - 7/31/2006 1:27:32 PM)
A few months ago, my boss, a video/film producer, did a closed-circuit-type broadcast of a symposium in San Diego that included speakers from various industries...mostly the computer/telecom industry, but Al Gore was there to talk about "An Inconvenient Truth", and there was a gentleman who spoke briefly about alternative fuels. He and his partners have developed one such fuel alternative, but are having trouble finding the financial backing they need to go forward with the project, because the Bush Administration will not guarantee that the price of oil would not drop below $40 per barrel no matter what OPEC does with prices/production. (And this man says he has been approached by a representative of OPEC, telling him that they would drop the price of oil, specifically to put alternative fuel companies out of business) So, not only is George Allen's GOP perpetuating our dependence on foreign oil, but it is undermining American companies trying to develop alternatives.
Felix needs to GO!

This is a real David vs Goliath campaign. I don't think Allen/Goliath is going to give up anything- oil money, blood money.
According to the FEC, Allen's got big corporate PACs putting money into his campaign. He netted over $2 million from PACs (big Pharm, Telecom, Oil,Insurance...) by the end of June. That's more than 20% of his war chest. He's got money to buy votes, and he owes his political career to big money interests.
Webb, a populist, has a much smaller budget, and more of it comes from little guys like you and me. He received only $107,200 from PACs-- not corporate-- for under 10% of his funds at the end of June.
I bet Webb will win anyway. People are sick of government by the money/for the money. We need someone who will speak up for ordinary folks.

Ohhhhh I like that!!
Government By the Money, For the Money!!!!!!
Will be using that one again and again......
I just gave to Jim Webb again. Government by the people, for the people.
