The Republican Dirty Tricks Have Begun

I was working the Democratic Booth at the Asian Festival in Reston, VA this past Saturday and someone came up to express his concern over getting a robo-call from Nanci Pelosi supporting Jim Webb. This person said he was an independent and didn't think Nanci Pelosi was the best person to help Webb in Virginia. I agreed and told him it was probably a counterfeit call from friends of George Allen.
I just heard back from the Webb campaign that they have no robo-calls in the feild, therefore these calls are counterfeit. If you receive one, please record it and contact the Jim Webb for Senate campaign so they can take appropriate action.
Unfortunately the Republican friends of Jerry Kilgore did this sort of thing repeatedly in the '05 Governor's race and just paid the fines when they got caught as a cost of doing business. Please be on alert for these dirty tricks and warn your family and friends.
We also have reports of people active in the Webb campaign being dropped off of various email lists. I checked with a friend who found over 40 emails from me and others who are active in the Jim Webb campaign in her spam folder. I think the dark side may also be manipulating spam filters to cut our communications. Please check your spam and junk email folders for legitimate emails and select them and flag them as "Not Spam."
Be aware they are just getting warmed up. For more history on Republican Dirty Tricks please go to the link below and prepare yourself to fight back.

Can't Nancy Pelosi make this public? (phriendlyjaime - 7/25/2006 1:23:56 PM)
Isn't that basically slander?
We have to catch them first (Todd Smyth - 7/25/2006 3:04:48 PM)
Republicans have invested a lot of money and effort assassinating Nancy Pelosi's character and they take advantage of it by targeting swing voters with crap like this. I doubt Webb is the only one they are doing it to. We have to make people aware of this so they can combat it and hopefully help catch them.
The fines for this type of thing are pretty small compared to how much Allen is raising.
It's puts Nancy in a terrible poisition (Andrea Chamblee - 7/26/2006 11:50:41 AM)
to say her support would HURT Jim Webb. It would be awkward for Webb, too, to say another Democrat's support hurts him. Perhaps they could join to say Webb is an independent thinker not a stereotype of either party, and nobody's Rubber Stamp, and for that, she admires him. Maybe Lowell could help craft a response.
How about robo-calls from Dukester...or Abramoff...or Ney...or... (Mimi Schaeffer - 7/25/2006 1:41:24 PM)
Hell, even robo-calls from Dubya to Independents would do the trick:)
Give 'em Hell (Todd Smyth - 7/25/2006 3:15:01 PM)
I think we just have to tell the truth on them like Harry Truman did. They have lied to the American people. They have lied to their own followers. They are frauds and crooks and they have nothing to offer the voters. They have screwed the pooch in the middle-east while Bush is playing "pull my finger" at the G8 conference with Hu Jintao of China.
I was with you when you were talking about... (va.walter - 7/25/2006 2:32:17 PM)
fake robocalls. No surprise there. However, you lost me when you started saying the Republicans had found a way to hack into spam filters to mess with your emails. Did you actually type that with a straight face? I'm laughing as I type right now.
There's no hacking required (Todd Smyth - 7/25/2006 3:00:13 PM)
There's nothing to hack on most spam filters. They adjust in part based on emails people manually flag as spam. All you would have to do is replicate and automate the flagging of certain emails to have them flagged in the next filter update.
Doing ANYTHING for a win.. (drmontoya - 7/25/2006 3:07:01 PM)
No matter how dirty. That's what they do, and we need to undertand that and understand they won't change at all. They are protected too, by money, by power, by the machine.
So..
How can we beat them?
Well, we can't at least now beat them being honorable right now. If we think we can win any campaign in american politics today without being a little shady.. then we already lost.
Don't agree with me, be honest.
Yes, today's society is in desparate need of change.. and we all know it. But, people believe what they hear first no matter if it's a left or right message.
Not saying people are simple minded, just naive at times.. admit it. At some point in politics, haven't you been naive?
I have, and that's why I am an ex-repub.
So, we can't just sit back and take it.
We need to fight back, again.. let me know if your ready to wage this war.

We have to replicate your breakthrough (Todd Smyth - 7/25/2006 3:49:47 PM)
They have gone so far off the beam, our best response is creating awareness of the lies and scams they have played on the Democrats, independents and swing voters who have voted for them in the past. We have to get better at pointing this out to people.
Republicans promised fiscal responsibility but have given us the worst deficits in US history and the worst public debt in human history. They play a "Bait and Switch" scam by calling it "Tax Relief" but then take the money from our children (posterity).
Republicans promised smaller government but have given us the largest government we've ever had.
Republicans promised to restore moral leadership but they are bogged down in corruption indictments and war profiteering scandals.
Republicans promised to simplify the tax code but changed it from 5000 pages to over 17,000 pages.
Republicans promised to protect our privacy but they invade it every chance they get from tapping our phones to Terry Schaivo.
Republicans have promised to help average Americans but they outsource our jobs and sell off our ports and our highways.
Republicans have promised to protect the borders but they made crossing the border an "administrative fault" back in the mid 80's to break the back of the unions.
They have played the people for fools and we have to point this out to those people. The corporate owned media won't do it. We have to do it face-to-face every chance we get.
I know todd. (drmontoya - 7/25/2006 4:56:45 PM)
It's hard for us to do it face to face. especially out here in Virginia.
We need Jim on the tube, telling Virginia.
In that, he will be effective in getting the message out there.
If Webb goes on TV (Smith is Blue - 7/25/2006 6:20:32 PM)
before the end of Aug. i will stop supporting him. It would be a waste of money that he will desperately need later, no one who is not already listening would start or remember it by Nov. 7th and it will just make Allen get back on TV with his crappy spots.
What Jim Webb needs is Vol. doing voter contact and putting ID's into Prevail so that come the end of Oct. he knows specificly what house every vote lives in and their phone number so they can get GOTVed and actually turn out and vote. Yard signs, bumper sticker, and TV ads do not vote.
We want ads.. (drmontoya - 7/25/2006 6:22:12 PM)
online. We can worry about paid ads post-labor day.
online ads stil cost money (Smith is Blue - 7/25/2006 6:31:58 PM)
the campaign would still have to hire a media consultant to come up with and produce the ads, so you still end up with a cost that out weighs the benfites.
If you really want to utilize the free marketing of youtube and the internet, buy a bunch of Webb shirts, get some friends and video tape yourselves doing Viz somewhere, cut in someone reading some of the campaigns sound bits, and put it on the internet, and i promise you that i will email the link to everyone i know.
RE: Google News Ratings (JPTERP - 7/25/2006 8:16:28 PM)
I see that some clown keeps manipulating the Google News ratings. Apparently the NRO is a favorite information source for those seeking news on Jim Webb these days (or more likely for the guy manipulating the ratings).
smart (hrconservative - 7/26/2006 1:30:57 PM)
Wow, you must really think we are super-smart! Manipulating spam filters, google news, voting machines. . . .
We don't need tricks to beat Dems in Virginia.
Go back to sleep (Todd Smyth - 7/28/2006 10:25:15 PM)
No we think people like you are brainwashed and agressively ignorant. But a few greedy bastards go after us hammer and tong in most elections as in "Friends of Jerry Kilgore" in '05. Go back to sleep.
