George Allen Approves $300 BILLION on Iraq So Far, No End in Sight

I saw the report today that the Congressional Budget Office calculates that $300 billion has been spent on the war in Iraq so far. George Allen has consistently voted to approve of this expenditure. That's about $1014 spent by our government for every man, woman and child in the US (US Census= 295,734,134).

On the other end, that equals a little over $11,000 spent by the US for each man, woman and child in Iraq since the beginning of the war (26.7 billion people in Iraq, according to 2005 CIA World Factbook). The estimated Per Capita income in Iraq was $3400 in 2005, so that means that George Allen approved of spending a little more on war than each Iraqi makes in a year's time.

Virginia, with a population of 7.2 million people, represents 2.4% of the US population. If Virginia taxpayers shouldered 2.4% of the cost of the war on Iraq, our share would be $7,078,515, which equals about 10% of the biennial Virginia budget that just came out. I believe that Virginia taxpayers will actually pay a little higher percentage than that for the war. All of this was approved by George Allen.

That doesn't begin to cover the cost in human life for this terrible blunder, which has the active support George Allen.

What have we gained from all this war effort?

Agency reports on cost of War

WASHINGTON -- The war in Iraq has cost almost $300 billion so far and would total almost a half-trillion dollars even if all U.S. troops were withdrawn by the end of 2009, according to a Congressional Budget Office analysis released Thursday.

Congress has approved $432 billion for military operations and other costs related to the war against terror since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The new study is the first analysis by Congress' scorekeeping agency of how much of that has been allocated for the Iraq war.
