I'm going to be attending George Allen's committee meetings from now until he starts campaigning in September. I want to give him as sense of accountability to the people, as well as report on his actions back to the netroots. I think that others should do the same. By making 'people power' visible to our leaders, maybe - just maybe - they'll take their responsibility to the voters into account.
I will attend and report on the ones I can. I have bolded the ones I find most interesting.

What a wonderful effort. (Josh - 7/11/2006 3:52:05 PM)
Welcome and thank you for this fantastic contribution.

I agree. (phriendlyjaime - 7/11/2006 4:11:02 PM)
Thanks so much!  We whom are far away from DC (sniff, sniff) all appreciate this very much.

Wow, this is great. (Lowell - 7/11/2006 8:58:47 PM)
Thanks, and I look forward to hearing what you find out.

I just hope (Matt in VA - 7/11/2006 9:49:00 PM)
he doesn't think I'm stalking him.

RE: Expectations (JPTERP - 7/11/2006 11:12:51 PM)
I'm betting that Allen asks less than two probing questions during these hearings (combined).  And makes no more than one salient point.  Expect at least 5 football analogies.

Please bring coffee too.  Some of those topics may have huge implications for large special interests, but they sound like snoozers (e.g. the Refinery Process Schedule Act--which I'm guessing has to do with removing regulations for oil industry interests--just a hunch).

Nevertheless, great idea and look forward to hearing how things go.

Correct (Matt in VA - 7/12/2006 9:06:14 AM)
I read somewhere that it had to do with speeding up/relaxing the process for refinery permits.

That's what I figured (JPTERP - 7/13/2006 1:01:17 AM)
I'll be curious to see if they attempt to throw a couple billion in for good measure.

There is no better business investment than a few large targetted donations to the "right" congressional representatives.

I'd love to join you at one of these hearings, if possible. (RayH - 7/12/2006 8:16:07 AM)

Which one? (Matt in VA - 7/12/2006 9:04:53 AM)
I may not go to the one today, I have a lot of work to do.

If you need a break (pitin - 7/13/2006 1:36:03 AM)
I have a bunch of free days in my schedule until classes start up again.  Send me an e-mail ndelapiedra[at]yahoo.com if you need someone to fill in for you sometime.
