So what do you think? Can the human race survie the next 100 years, and if so, how?
Sure! (Matusleo - 7/8/2006 5:07:20 PM)
If we coudl survive the Black Plague, and other such disasters, then we can survive what is coming next. The real question is whether civilisation as we know it will survive. That is far more iffy.
This time it may be different (Teddy - 7/9/2006 11:14:08 AM)
I agree, we are a tenacious lot, but also rather young as species go. We survived the Black Plague (which never ravaged the Americas at that time, so even if Europe and Asia went under that still left most of Africa, the Americas, Australia and Oceania as reservoirs of humanity).
But today we have the actual capability of destroying ourselves en masse through either environmental degradation bringing unmanageable climate change, or devastating nuclear strikes which will poison the entire globe. Interestingly enough, one option or the other has the active cooperation of two different groups of fundamentalist religions. Maybe it's religion (of that sort) that has to go if we humans are to survive.
