This is awesome... (Loudoun County Dem - 7/4/2006 5:49:01 PM)
very touching picture.

I agree. (Lowell - 7/4/2006 6:07:39 PM)

Agreed... (Ingrid - 7/4/2006 6:39:37 PM)
This is very moving.  I shared this with my father who lives in FL, and is also a WW-II veteran, albeit a little younger than this gentleman (my dad is 87).

Touching (Nichole - 7/4/2006 6:51:02 PM)
That is very moving.

Beautiful (Maura in VA - 7/4/2006 8:00:48 PM)
That's my favorite patriotic picture of all today.  I have tears in my eyes!

I miss all of you down in Virginia.  I had a fantastic day today up here in CT marching in the famous Willimantic Boom-Box Parade with local bloggers and later with Ned Lamont, where the CT Democratic bloggers sponsored our own float (it is a wacky parade, a true slice of Rockwellian Americana) and Ned Lamont's supporters outnumbered Joe Lieberman's by about 8 to 1.

It was great!  I'm glad to be here fighting for Ned Lamont right now, but if I could be in two places at once, I sure wish I could have been in Fairfax today with you all, too.

OMG (Kathy Gerber - 7/4/2006 10:01:59 PM)
That float is unreal :)

Float - we need a Combat Boot kicking a Cowboy Boot off the truck float! (snolan - 7/6/2006 5:20:28 PM)
Or something along those lines...

perhaps there could be an empty suit wearing the cowboy boots...  as that's all GFA is (an empty suit)

Hmmm  this bears further thinking... need an ale.

WWII Pilot (seveneasypeaces - 7/4/2006 8:12:09 PM)
This very grand man is also very planetary.  We have the best people on our side!!

He is actively working with a non-profit organization to bring satellite into Africa and Brazil and other place I can't remember (it was HOT today).  This will enable groups working on social issues to have a way to communicate. He leaves soon for Brazil. He was beautiful and full of light.

True individual freedom cannot exist without economic security and independence.  People who are hungry and out of a job are the stuff of which dictatorships are made.

I am absolutely speechless. (phriendlyjaime - 7/4/2006 8:34:42 PM)
I had no idea the man pictured above could actually make me prouder to have him on our side in this important election.  I am humbled by him and his accomplishments, and I applaud him for all he has done, is doing, and will do for our country and the world.

Oh-and I love your signature line.  :)

I interviewed WWI (1914-18) veterans... (thegools - 7/5/2006 12:31:25 AM)
...from 1990-2000. I met and interviewed at least 54 veterans, perhaps more.

I found that just as in younger people, they are a diverse bunch.  There were Republicans, Democrats and non-political ones among them.  For example, in 1998 some were disturbed by Clinton's infidelity, others thought it a giant waste of time-citing all the infidelities of past Presidents (that they remembered) going back to the 1920's.  All of them were very nice, friendly, and happy people.  The sour-krauts had long since died off.

What is my point???  I guess it doesn't surprise me that this gentleman supports Webb, there will be many others who do as well.  The GOP, no doubt, could find someone to counter this fellow-to spit vinegar and say nasty things, however it would be rare.  Those types tend to have died off before hitting 90.

God bless that guy!  I love seeing people who live and live and live and make their time on the earth count even at such an age.

Beautiful!! (summercat - 7/5/2006 5:08:21 AM)
This picture is a classic!  And it sounds lilke the Fairfax and other parades were gung-ho for the Dems!  Thanks all for the great accounts--I'm lookin for that pic of the Allen tracker and the Web supporter.
