And You Thought Florida 2000 Was Bad?

If you thought the Florida "recount" was bad, how about the situation unfolding in Mexico right now?  According to the New York Times:

[Mexican election] officials declared Sunday that they could not immediately determine a winner in the tightest presidential race in the country's history. Minutes later, the two front runners each declared victory, setting in motion an electoral crisis.

The contest pitted Felipe Calder+â-¦n, a conservative former energy minister backed by business leaders, against Andr+â-¬s Manuel L+â-¦pez Obrador, the firebrand leftist former mayor of Mexico City, supported mostly by the poor.

Oh, great.  Can we expect to see Bush Family Consigliere Jim Baker jetting down to Mexico City any minute now to help Calder+â-¦n steal the election get a fair shake?  Will hordes of right-wing thugs conservative observers be descending upon election officials any minute now, just like in Florida 2000?  Como se dice "butterfly ballot" en Espa+â-¦ol? And who's the Mexican version of Katherine "Cruella" Harris?

Fortunately, in the United States, we had a wise and apolitical Supreme Court that decided the election fairly and objectively.  And a "liberal media" which covered the election responsibly and effectively.  Hahahahahahahahaha.  In other words, our neighbor to the south is in deep, deep trouble. God help Mexico.

Great style (Dan - 7/3/2006 9:08:00 AM)
I love your writing style in this blurb.  Very compelling that the Bush Administration would not only fix its own elections, but other elections as well.  So much for "spreading Democracy" huh?  I guess the lesson here is that you can't "spread Democracy" if you do not believe in Democracy.

Gracias, Dan! (Lowell - 7/3/2006 9:33:15 AM)

Hola, Lowell! (summercat - 7/3/2006 11:12:49 AM)
Nice post--and it will be interesting how (not "if") the BCF puts its oar in.
