Will Jim Webb.... (Left Wing - 7/3/2006 7:09:10 AM)
...be marching in this parade?
That's what it says in the announcement. (Lowell - 7/3/2006 7:10:24 AM)
See above. ("Update! Jim Webb will be Marching with Us!")
COMMENT HIDDEN (VADem4Ever - 7/3/2006 9:36:22 AM)
Why? (Left Wing - 7/3/2006 9:43:29 AM)
A group of veterans in uniform with guns over their shoulders is okay and makes sense. What would be the purpose of you carrying a gun? Quite frankly, if I were standing on the side watching a parade, seeing one lone person carrying a gun would make me uneasy.
Fairfax City is pretty Republican and Republicans like guns. (VADem4Ever - 7/3/2006 10:13:32 AM)
Like Creigh Deeds, Jim is a strong proponent of our Second Amendment Right to Bear Arms.
Fairfax City is a Republican bastion with a Republican mayor and a majority of the city council are Republicans (although they run in a "non-partisan election).
Like Jim Webb, Republicans (and many independents) oppose gun control.
What better message to send to independents and Republicans than to have a few people with guns marching with Jim Webb.
It would send a strong message and convince some pro-gun Allen supporters that there is an alternative -- Jim Webb!
Why are you asking RK? (Eric - 7/3/2006 10:27:57 AM)
For the record, RK does not set gun policy for the City of Fairfax.
Perhaps you could give them a call and report back.
It's called (phriendlyjaime - 7/3/2006 10:28:13 AM)
there's a time and a place.
I just don't think a parade with children, animals, and people of all walks of life would be jumping up and down with joy to see guns. Believe me, the people of VA will get to know Jim Webb for who he is and what he stands for as the months wear on; I don't think we need to add firearms to our already widening group of volunteers and voters.
I disagree.... (Left Wing - 7/3/2006 1:49:09 PM)
People in the crowd wouldn't know that you're gun isn't loaded. Opposing gun control doesn't mean that a person is irresponsible and stupid.
Who are you disagreeing with? (phriendlyjaime - 7/3/2006 2:03:24 PM)
Just a question, not trying to fight you on your post. It just wasn't clear.
I think guns would be a terrible idea, but I think it was a loaded question (no pun intended) from VADEM4EVER. And yes, you are right; opposing gun control doesn't make someone stupid, but it SHOULD make them see that if minimal gun control is important to some, than minimal BODY control (smoking, drugs, abortion) has to make sense and hence, be allowed for all citizens as well.
Not you.... (Left Wing - 7/3/2006 2:49:54 PM)
...with VADem2everwhatever.
Gotcha, thanks! :) (phriendlyjaime - 7/3/2006 2:56:06 PM)
Yeah, you might not want to bother...
No Guns. (James Martin - 7/3/2006 11:08:21 AM)
Final Answer.
AMEN. n/t (phriendlyjaime - 7/3/2006 2:03:37 PM)
Jim... (kevinceckowski - 7/3/2006 10:22:39 AM)
will be marching but do we know where? Looked at the info on the Fairfax Gov site and it is not clear where we are going to be in the tiers/divisions, etc.
kc.
All the way in back. (James Martin - 7/3/2006 11:09:08 AM)
Hes in the front in Dale City and at the End of Fairfax City...
Best wishes for all of you!! (summercat - 7/3/2006 11:15:30 AM)
I'll be marching with Shawn O'Donnell and other Demcorats (with a big Webb banner, I hope) in the Yorktown 4th parade.
Everyone have fun and drink lots of water... (Loudoun County Dem - 7/3/2006 11:32:09 AM)
We will be marching (in Webb for Senate shirts) with Judy Feder in the Leesburg parade.
COMMENT HIDDEN (Thomas Paine - 7/3/2006 11:29:07 AM)
I think (mkfox - 7/3/2006 2:57:01 PM)
Webb doesn't support needless gun control legislation because he's pro-privacy rights. Besides, you can't run for office in the South promoting strict gun control.
I think for the 4th parades Jim shouldn't wear shades and a hat so people will know what their future senator will look like!
Guns (DukieDem - 7/3/2006 4:21:09 PM)
If states want more gun control, then they can go right ahead. We don't need anymore gun legislation at the federal level.
Parades (Kathy Gerber - 7/3/2006 8:52:58 PM)
Tomorrow we will join the Nelson County Democrats for the parade through beautiful downtown Lovingston! Yesterday we had a lovely afternoon shopping for parade wear. Our jaunty blue and red straw hats bedecked in red garlands with star shaped flags complement the current version of the "little black dress" - the Virginia must have of summer 2006 - the Jim Webb Born Fighting t-shirt.
This is going to be fun! And I'll be thinking of you all up north! Enjoy :)
We're having a bit of a sign war going on down here. Virgil says save the signs until September, but the Allen people position their signs to block the Webb signs. Weed signs are abundant.
Al Weed will be in another parade, and Emily Weed will be with us.
