Photo of the Day: Warner and Webb

Courtesy of the Associated Press' Kevin Wolf, here's the winning team for US Senate in Virginia this year - Jim Webb, backed strongly by Mark Warner. According to the Washington Post:

In his first public comments about Webb since the...party primary June 13, [former Gov. Mark] Warner said that he was encouraged by Webb's chances of defeating Sen. George Allen (R-Va.) in November, predicting that Webb would be a "progressive and independent voice" in the Senate.

"You'll see me, Governor [Timothy M.] Kaine and other elected Democrats rally behind this candidate. . . . This is a united Democratic Party," Warner said. He said Webb would be able to draw traditional Democrats along with independents and moderate Republicans, a key formula for any Democrat to win statewide.

Nice.  I also like Warner's prediction that Webb is "going to mount a very aggressive campaign" and that the race against George Allen is "very winnable."  Hey, Governor Warner, is there any way you can spare $5 or $10 million to help your new best friend?  Ha. :)

P.S.  Just a brief comment, but that SurveyUSA poll was one of the most ridiculous polls I've ever seen.  How can there be only 3% undecided at this point in the race?  That makes absolutely no sense.

[UPDATE: I forgot to mention that Webb and Warner jointly blasted Bush and the  Republican Congress for their pitiful response to the Hurricane Katrina disaster.  In response, what did Dick Wad(hams) do?  That's right, change the subject and try to link Jim Webb to Hollywood of all things.  All based on the fact that Webb was involved in a movie project on his book, "Rules of Engagement," which Webb described as being about how, "In the Marine Corps, loyalty means you will die for somebody even if you don+óGé¼Gäót like them."  Loyalty being something that Dick Wad(hams) and George Allen wouldn't know about, of course.]

Dick is a pawn. (Bubby - 6/30/2006 7:09:22 AM)
He sounds so foolish because his masters underestimate Webb. It has got to be tough being a Dick.

Check out Warner's PAC, www.forwardtogether.com (RayH - 6/30/2006 8:13:23 AM)
He has a "Mapchangers" contest going, to select the candidates most likely to change red states to blue. Winners in each phase of the 3 tiered competition receive some campaign help from Forwardtogether. Of course, if you REALLY want to help Jim Webb, remember that today (June 30) is the last day of the current FEC reporting period, so a contribution right now would be timely (www.webbforsenate.com).

Forwardtogether Mapchanger standings as of June 30, 2006 @ 3:00 AM EST.

EAST
1. VA-Sen James Webb

2. OH-03 Stephanie Studebaker

3. CT-04 Diane Farrell

4. MI-09 Nancy Skinner

5. PA-08 Patrick Murphy

If linking Jim Webb to H'wood (summercat - 6/30/2006 8:13:50 AM)
in response to criticism of the Katrina response is the best Wadhams/Rove can do--someone must be in the summer doldrums.

Bravo to Warner for aggressive support of Jim Webb!  I think he really gets it about Webb's broad appeal.

Jim worked on a Hollywood movie in his private career- (RayH - 6/30/2006 9:24:20 AM)
George posed in cowboy clothes for his public career. The burden of accountability is on George for what he's done as an elected official. By the way, what IS his record with regard to emergency preparedness, FEMA, Homeland Security, response to 9/11? Rubbestamps for the failing Bush agenda??

The incompetence of FEMA in responding to the Katrina disaster is directly related to bungling lack of oversight for Homeland Security. Our War on Terror has become a great playground for profiteers who can take advantage of government waste, fraud and abuse. Government mismanagement creates advantages for enemies of the US. It looks like George Allen and George Bush are either grossly incompetent or terribly duplicitous in fighting this war. I believe that the reason they've failed in Katrina response is because they are motivated by activities that generate profits for their friends, and poor people in America aren't part of the agenda.

We've spent billions on war and faulty attempts at nation-building in Iraq. What would America be like if that money were spent on our own education, transportation, scientific research, health care, alternative energy, border security?

No one is hiding it, pubes. (phriendlyjaime - 6/30/2006 9:41:44 AM)
There was a poll done, a very skewed poll which remember; according to your boys Bush and Delay, polls are "just snapshots in time."

But since you can't figure out how to do a search, here's the link:

anyone else bored to tears by this troll?

Bravo to Warner (Thomas Paine - 6/30/2006 9:17:07 AM)
Kudos to Mark Warner for stepping up to the plate to help Jim Webb win the Virginia Senate seat.

I just wish Webb would get off the fence on Warner's possible candidacy for President.

Nope. (phriendlyjaime - 6/30/2006 9:39:32 AM)
You don't want to turn off voters who may be very hard _________ as their fave candidate.  He is playing this smart.

I don't know who I want as Pres yet either, and I am quite well versed in areas of the political arena.  I think it's crazy to have a mind set on one candidate right now; we don't even have a full list of definites, and obviously there have been no debates.

KERRY MAY RUN (kevinceckowski - 6/30/2006 11:14:37 AM)
KERRY MAY RUN
.... SO MANY CONTENDERS, IT IS EARLY YET.

ANY WORD ABOUT DOUG WILDER BACKING WEBB YET?

COME ON DOUG!

Not time to endorse for President (Debby - 6/30/2006 10:05:50 AM)
No national elected figure or candidate has backed anyone for a potential presidential run.  What's the purpose of that?  Webb is smart enough to wait, see who the candidates will actually be and what the US and world situation is at that time.  It serves him no purpose to go anywhere near that.

Oh Tommy Boy (DukieDem - 6/30/2006 9:25:41 AM)
Good to have you back TPP (if it is indeed you).

I think Webb will endorse Warner when Warner declares. Sounds like they should set a date for around late November or so...

WOOOOOHOOO!!! Blew past $115,000, moving on to $125K! (phriendlyjaime - 6/30/2006 9:53:50 AM)
Nice, go contribute!  I got paid today, and they are getting all of my bar $$!

DID WE? (kevinceckowski - 6/30/2006 11:18:34 AM)
THAT IS GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!!

Wish contributions were in REAl time.

Webb and Warner Endorsement (Thomas Paine - 6/30/2006 12:16:05 PM)
Dukie Dem,

It is me, the infamous TPP.  RK gave me a temporary reprieve from my banning.  However, the thought police are out there... so watch what you say.

Seriously, my view is that Warner is Virginia's favorite son.  If you come from the state where the favorite son resides, you should say early that you support him, even if you will throw your support elsewhere when it gets serious.

It's polite.  It's traditional.  No one gets hurt.  It's creates a mutual admiration society, sorta like RK and Webb.

Plus, it really doesn't matter who we support in Virginia because, unless Warner is on the presidential ticket, Virginia will not support a Democrat for president in its late-in-the-game primary.

Warner is being real kind to Webb, considering that the Webb campaign went pretty far in making it sound like Warner endorsed him in the primary when Warner remained neutral and his heart was with his old friend Harris.

Nonetheless, that's water over the dam.  I'm glad Warner is playing in Webb's sandbox.  I just wish Webb would be more solicitous to Warner's candidacy.

Now, if the Webb campaign can actually put together a professional, statewide campaign, we'll be in business...

Welcome Back TPP (AnonymousIsAWoman - 6/30/2006 5:17:15 PM)
that's really all  I wanted to say.
