In his first public comments about Webb since the...party primary June 13, [former Gov. Mark] Warner said that he was encouraged by Webb's chances of defeating Sen. George Allen (R-Va.) in November, predicting that Webb would be a "progressive and independent voice" in the Senate."You'll see me, Governor [Timothy M.] Kaine and other elected Democrats rally behind this candidate. . . . This is a united Democratic Party," Warner said. He said Webb would be able to draw traditional Democrats along with independents and moderate Republicans, a key formula for any Democrat to win statewide.
Nice. I also like Warner's prediction that Webb is "going to mount a very aggressive campaign" and that the race against George Allen is "very winnable." Hey, Governor Warner, is there any way you can spare $5 or $10 million to help your new best friend? Ha. :)
P.S. Just a brief comment, but that SurveyUSA poll was one of the most ridiculous polls I've ever seen. How can there be only 3% undecided at this point in the race? That makes absolutely no sense.
[UPDATE: I forgot to mention that Webb and Warner jointly blasted Bush and the Republican Congress for their pitiful response to the Hurricane Katrina disaster. In response, what did Dick Wad(hams) do? That's right, change the subject and try to link Jim Webb to Hollywood of all things. All based on the fact that Webb was involved in a movie project on his book, "Rules of Engagement," which Webb described as being about how, "In the Marine Corps, loyalty means you will die for somebody even if you don+óGé¼Gäót like them." Loyalty being something that Dick Wad(hams) and George Allen wouldn't know about, of course.]

Bravo to Warner for aggressive support of Jim Webb! I think he really gets it about Webb's broad appeal.
The incompetence of FEMA in responding to the Katrina disaster is directly related to bungling lack of oversight for Homeland Security. Our War on Terror has become a great playground for profiteers who can take advantage of government waste, fraud and abuse. Government mismanagement creates advantages for enemies of the US. It looks like George Allen and George Bush are either grossly incompetent or terribly duplicitous in fighting this war. I believe that the reason they've failed in Katrina response is because they are motivated by activities that generate profits for their friends, and poor people in America aren't part of the agenda.
We've spent billions on war and faulty attempts at nation-building in Iraq. What would America be like if that money were spent on our own education, transportation, scientific research, health care, alternative energy, border security?
GO JIM
GO WARNER
GOBLUE VIRGINIA!
But since you can't figure out how to do a search, here's the link:
I just wish Webb would get off the fence on Warner's possible candidacy for President.
I don't know who I want as Pres yet either, and I am quite well versed in areas of the political arena. I think it's crazy to have a mind set on one candidate right now; we don't even have a full list of definites, and obviously there have been no debates.
ANY WORD ABOUT DOUG WILDER BACKING WEBB YET?
COME ON DOUG!
I think Webb will endorse Warner when Warner declares. Sounds like they should set a date for around late November or so...
Wish contributions were in REAl time.
It is me, the infamous TPP. RK gave me a temporary reprieve from my banning. However, the thought police are out there... so watch what you say.
Seriously, my view is that Warner is Virginia's favorite son. If you come from the state where the favorite son resides, you should say early that you support him, even if you will throw your support elsewhere when it gets serious.
It's polite. It's traditional. No one gets hurt. It's creates a mutual admiration society, sorta like RK and Webb.
Plus, it really doesn't matter who we support in Virginia because, unless Warner is on the presidential ticket, Virginia will not support a Democrat for president in its late-in-the-game primary.
Warner is being real kind to Webb, considering that the Webb campaign went pretty far in making it sound like Warner endorsed him in the primary when Warner remained neutral and his heart was with his old friend Harris.
Nonetheless, that's water over the dam. I'm glad Warner is playing in Webb's sandbox. I just wish Webb would be more solicitous to Warner's candidacy.
Now, if the Webb campaign can actually put together a professional, statewide campaign, we'll be in business...
