Who'll Stop the Rain?

OK, now this is getting ridiculous.  Will these monsoons ever end?  Or, to quote Creedence Clearwater Revival:

Long as I remember the rain's been comin down.
Clouds of mystry pourin' confusion on the ground.
Good men through the ages, tryin' to find the sun;
And I wonder, still I wonder, who'll stop the rain?.

I went down Virginia, seekin' shelter from the storm.
Caught up in the fable, I watched the tower grow.
Five year plans and new deals, wrapped in golden chains.
And I wonder, still I wonder who'll stop the rain?

Heard the singers playin', how we cheered for more.
The crowd had rushed together, tryin' to keep warm.
Still the rain kept pourin', fallin on my ears.
And I wonder, still I wonder who'll stop the rain.

[UPDATENo wonder why my basement flooded.]

Actually, the rain was a metaphor for the Viet Nam War (Vital Centrist - 6/25/2006 9:56:28 PM)

With Iraq and the weather the way they are, this song is still very timely.

I know, but my basement is flooding... (Lowell - 6/25/2006 11:14:56 PM)
and I keep asking myself, "who'll stop the goddamn rain?!?"

Good luck with that!! n/t (Alicia - 6/26/2006 12:42:28 PM)

40 days and 40 nights? (Kindler - 6/25/2006 10:09:12 PM)
Maybe God has decided that the Earth -- or at least Washington, DC -- has earned itself another Great Flood.

And y'know, I think He's got a point there... 8-(

We need to stop Allen's reign (PM - 6/25/2006 10:22:05 PM)
Lowell, you did a nice piece on the gay marriage issue some time back, giving a bunch of reasons why the whole objection to gay marriage was off base.  Care to reproduce it?  It would be a nice piece for people to paraphrase when writing letters to the editor in the late summer and early fall.  And folks, letters on a topic like this can have an impact.  In our delegate race last year we found that voters paid attention to letters in the Times and Connection local newspapers in Fairfax and Loudon.

We need to stop Thelma Drake's "reign" too (beachydem - 6/25/2006 10:26:19 PM)
Com'on down to the Tidewater, dry as a bone!

"Here comes that rainy day feeling again" (Craig - 6/25/2006 11:03:13 PM)
...to quote another 60s song.

Tonight, it actually started just as I was firing up a game of Doom 3.  Suddenly, lightning through the darkness and a downpour of rain.  Kinda creepy.

How About "I Love A Rainy Night" (Alicia - 6/25/2006 11:07:45 PM)
anyone remember that one?  Think it's 70's.

I remember that one... (Ingrid - 6/25/2006 11:44:33 PM)
But my favorite rain song is CCR's "Have you ever seen the rain".  I tried to "salsify" it, but it never worked well for my band, so we gave up.  I still like to play it, though, just with the guitar:

Someone told me long ago there's a calm before the storm,
I know, it's been comin' for some time.
When it's over, so they say, it'll rain a sunny day,
I know, shinin' down like water.

I want to know, have you ever seen the rain?
I want to know, have you ever seen the rain
Comin' down on a sunny day?

I was just thinking about that song... (joe8track - 6/25/2006 11:55:00 PM)
It was by Eddie Rabbit. Tomorrow we can sing "Rainy Days and Mondays" by the Carpenters (esp. Lowell and his basement) - "always get me down".

two weeks ago (thegools - 6/25/2006 11:38:14 PM)
we were having the driest spring I can remember.  It was dusty where I have never seen dust.  Given a choice between plants and animals dying for lack of water and luxurious rain, I choose rain every time.

Don't stop thinking about tomorrow (pitin - 6/26/2006 12:31:19 AM)
...since we're busting out the old school songs, thought a little Fleetwood Mac/Clinton jam session might be in order.

It'll soon be here
it'll be here better than before (B/C VA will be Blue)
yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone...(and so are Allen and Bush pretty soon)
