ANALYSIS: First campaign E Mails from Jim Webb & George Allen in VA Senate race!

Hello Everyone:

Below are the first two general election "kick off" campaign e mails I received from Jim Webb and George Allen in the Virginia Senate campaign from Friday, June 23.

I subscribed to George Allen's e mail list because you have to know what he is saying in order to run the best campaign against him.  I also think it is a good idea to do that with all GOP candidates in races all over the country that you are involved with or are following in order to know better what the candidates who you are supporting are up against!

The Virginia Senate race is very serious and Jim Webb is right when he claims below that he is within 5 polling points of George Allen:

"In a Zogby/Wall Street Journal poll released just this week we have pulled within five points of George Allen 48%-43% -- only a week after our primary victory."

That figure was verified on MSNBC Hardball from Thursday, June 22:

Updated: 12:24 a.m. CT June 23, 2006

SHUSTER:  "Even in Republican Virginia, analysts say frustration over the war is turning moderates against incumbent Senator George Allen.  According to the latest poll, his Democratic challenger this fall, James Webb, is now within five points."

George Allen is very predictable and he is playing to the hard core Neocon GOP activist base with buzz words they like to hear when he makes comments like these in his efforts to try and define the campaign and negatively define Jim Webb:

"The liberal national media..."

"And liberal Democrat leaders like Howard Dean, John Kerry and Chuck Schumer desperately want to be able to tell their wealthy donors that a liberal can win in Virginia..."

The Neocon GOP activist base followers of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, and people like them (who love George Allen and who Allen is sucking up to in order to run for President in 2008) seriously believe that ALL media outlets outside of FOX News and Neocon talk radio are "The liberal national media."  Check out this FOX News transcript of Bill O'Reilly and Laura Ingraham to see that:

Laura Ingraham Catches Heat for Iraq Analysis

Wednesday, June 07, 2006

O'REILLY: Absolutely a fair analysis I think. Do you believe NBC News is anti-war, anti-Iraq war?

INGRAHAM: I think there's not really any doubt at this point that the media today has pretty much concluded that this is a loser. The Iraq thing is a loser.

O'REILLY: What do you mean by the media? I mean, FOX News is still there on coverage.

INGRAHAM: The mainstream +óGé¼GÇ¥ yes, the dinosaur media. I call it the dinosaur media. FOX is not part of that. The dinosaurs, the old networks.

O'REILLY: The three networks? CNN?

INGRAHAM: Yes, CNN probably and the mainstream, so-called mainstream newspapers. I think they think Bush has really screwed this whole thing up. The war on terror has become ineffective.

It is also a very common Neocon GOP strategy to pick out a few big name and controversial Democrats, demonize them thoroughly, and then define these few people as speaking for the entire Democratic Party.  That is what Allen is doing by using the word "liberal" so much and he is also trying to look like a "family man" in that picture with the little girl.

This race is very important because George Allen will be a very serious GOP candidate for President in 2008 if he wins this Senate race in 2006 and Allen is completely sold out to the Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter base of activists!

George Allen is such an extreme Neocon ideologue that he makes Bush look like a moderate in my opinion.  If you don't like what you see in Bush now, a 2008 George Allen Presidency would be even worse and more arrogant than what you are seeing right now and that would be a disaster for this country and for the whole world!

Just look at this 2000 Virginia Senate debate transcript of George Allen to see how extreme, arrogant, and how far out of the mainstream that he is:

2000 U.S. Senatorial Debate - Transcript

October 22, 2000, NBC 12 Richmond, Va.
Moderator: Larry J. Sabato
Candidates: Chuck Robb (D), George Allen (R)

Sabato>>> Mr. Allen I would like to show you and our audience a brief video clip of you while you were governor of Virginia. This was taped at the republican convention that nominated oliver north for the U.S. Senate. Roll the clip, please.

Allen videotape >>> And my friends I say figuratively let's enjoy knocking their soft teeth down their whining throats.

Sabato>>> Mr. Allen, your own wife, your own chief of staff asked you not to say those words about the Democrats since you were governor of all the people in Virginia. But you did it anyway, just as you have uttered other inflammatory statements during your political career. Can you see why Virginians by an overwhelming margin in a recent Time Dispatch - Channel 12 poll judged Mr. Robb and not you as someone who looks and acts like a senator?

Allen >> So what's the question? I'm supposed to answer the poll question?

Sabato>>> the question is very clear, Mr. Allen, please proceed you have 1 minute.

Allen>>> I'm glad you had the word figuratively. I take full blame for that comment that I made at the Republican Convention. We were sitting there in the locker room I thought the speech need ad stronger ending and there I was thinking of locker room talk and what would motivate a team that my father would be coaching.

Yes my wife told me that I shouldn't put that in it in the speech. Although it said figuratively. Nevertheless what people see in me is makes promises and keeps its promises.

I think that this transcript speaks for itself and shows exactly what George Allen thinks about people who disagree with him!  Can you imagine this extreme ideologue running for President and possibly winning in 2008?

If you agree with me that the answer to this question is "No," then please forward this on (especially to people in Virginia) and I highly recommend doing what you can now to help Jim Webb win this Senate race so we will never have to worry about even the possibility of a 2008 George Allen Presidency!

Gen. Wes Clark's endorsement of Jim Webb against George Allen:

America needs people like Jim Webb - because we need leaders. We need to put Jim Webb in the Senate. He'll make sure that we make the right decisions on the war - and he'll make sure that we'll make the right decisions to help the people of Virginia.

"I've known Jim for over 20 years. He's a Naval Academy graduate. He's one of the real heroes of the Vietnam War. He was a great fighter - who then got out of the military and chose to serve his country in other ways.

"I knew him when he was the assistant secretary of defense for reserve affairs in the Reagan administration. I just think he's a terrific man, he's a terrific leader - he's the kind of leader Virginians can count on."

Dear Mitch,

Contribute to our campaign before the June 30th deadline!
We did it. We defied the odds. We defied the pundits. Thanks to your help, our campaign won the nomination for U.S. Senate in Virginia.

Now the race against George Allen begins. In a Zogby/Wall Street Journal poll released just this week we have pulled within five points of George Allen 48%-43% -- only a week after our primary victory. We have the momentum in this race, but I need your help now more than ever. We need the resources to compete. Allen has an $11 million war chest and anticipates that it will grow to $20 million in the coming months.

It is absolutely critical for us to rebuild our campaign accounts in the wake of the primary race so that we can compete with George Allen. If you are able, please donate to my campaign before the June 30th end-of-quarter deadline. We have only four months before the election, and can't afford a moment's delay in our ability to wage this campaign.

http://webbforsenate.com/contribute

I have met thousands of Virginians during this campaign who are thirsting for change.

They have looked at our country and have decided that in too many cases our leaders are not equal to the challenges we face. They want leaders who can articulate a vision for the future, who believe in them, and who want this country to move forward. They want to preserve the strength and dignity of our nation, and the way that it interacts with other countries around the globe. They want a leader who will not just make empty promises and follow the Bush Administration blindly but who is capable of independent thought, and of taking a hard stand when the stakes are high. They want a leader who will give them a voice in the corridors of power, rather than parroting a political machine or a special interest lobby.

If I am elected, I can promise you that I will be that leader.

That's why I need you to donate to our General Election Fund before June 30th. Support my campaign to bring real leadership to the U.S. Senate.

http://webbforsenate.com/contribute

The media will use the end-of-quarter deadline as a benchmark to see if we've got the money we need to be competitive with George Allen. If we are successful in rebuilding our accounts after the primary, we will generate a wave of publicity that will bring us new supporters and sustain the momentum we need in order to hit the ground running.

In the meantime, we're going to keep this campaign focused on the issues.

I've challenged George Allen to five debates. What voters want to know is how we intend to solve the serious problems we are facing, from stabilizing Iraq to the dramatic disparity in economic opportunity between the richest and poorest Americans. I hope that George Allen will accept this challenge and give Virginians the chance to compare our ideas first hand.

As always, thank you for your efforts for our campaign and your financial support. Together, I am confident that we can win this race and work together to give Virginia a brighter future.

Sincerely,

Jim Webb

P.S. Many of you have given all you can afford, and I appreciate that. But if you are able, please contribute to our campaign today, and then forward this message to your friends. Invite them to join our campaign to bring true leadership back to the United States Senate.

Dear Mitch,

My opponent is counting on you.

He+óGé¼Gäós counting on you to sit on the sidelines and make his job easier.

He+óGé¼Gäós counting on you to be lulled into complacency.

But I believe I know you better than he does.

Because of your active involvement online and your interest in politics and policy, I am convinced you won+óGé¼Gäót sit by and let Howard Dean, John Kerry and Chuck Schumer carry out their public pledge to defeat me.

But with just 8 days remaining before we hit our most crucial deadline of 2006 -- the June 30th FEC fund raising report deadline -- I need you to stand up and join the fight officially.

Please click here now to support my campaign by making a financial contribution.

Last week, I set a goal of raising $45,000 from my online supporters before June 30th.  So far we have raised just over half our goal.

Will you step up and help push us over the goal line?

This is a total team effort, and I need you with me now.

The liberal national media would like nothing better than to be able to report that my opponent is on par with me financially.

And liberal Democrat leaders like Howard Dean, John Kerry and Chuck Schumer desperately want to be able to tell their wealthy donors that a liberal can win in Virginia -- so they will send money to my opponent.

We can throw cold water on their plans by filing the strongest fund raising report possible... if you click here and make a contribution of $1,000, $500, $250, $100, $50 or $30 right away.

I+óGé¼Gäóm taking nothing for granted in this race because I know that the Washington, DC Democrats have pinned a target on my back.  They want payback for the stunning victories we won in 2004 when I chaired the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

And, they are pulling out all the stops in their so-called 50-state strategy to regain control of Congress this November.

I am relying on you and every friend I have to dig a little deeper than you normally would.

Please take a moment right now to make the most generous contribution you can before the June 30th deadline.

With your help, we will meet my goal of raising $45,000.

So please give your support by clicking here now.

By building a strong campaign foundation now, we+óGé¼Gäóll keep smiling and keep winning!

With kind personal regards, I remain

Senator George Allen

More on the George Allen ads

The RTD has this piece on the recent advertising by Sen. George Allen, noting that they are targeted to Northern Virginia:

U.S. Sen. George Allen, R-Va., has begun a second wave of television advertising aimed at the Washington suburbs.

Allen, seeking re-election to a second, six-year term, also has begun advertising on African-American radio stations.

The new TV ad features Allen’s family. He talks about fighting Internet predators and student gangs. There are no specifics.

In the closing shot, his youngest daughter, Brooke, 8, is in his arms.

Allen, with a $7.5 million war chest, is concentrating his early ads in Northern Virginia, where the challenge of his Democratic opponent is considered to be stronger than in other areas of the state….

Allen’s two ads are positive in tone.

The radio ad features Paul Gillis, a former state chairman of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, who called Allen “Howdy-Doody†when Allen was governor.

In the radio ad, Gillis, who has since worked for Republican politicians, describes Allen as a “good friend of mine and a good friend of African-Americans.â€Â

They are both outstanding ads. Check his website for the “Family†television ad and the “Paul Gillis†radio ad. This guy is the best politician in the state.

More Documentation: Rush Limbaugh supports George Allen for President in 2008! (Mitch Dworkin - 6/25/2006 9:53:47 AM)
Please note this direct quote below from Rush Limbaugh where he openly supports George Allen for President in 2008:

Q. Who do you think will be the GOP's candidate for president in 2008?

A. "This is the first year I can remember, the first election that there's no acknowledged frontrunner. It's wide open. A number of people think it will be McCain, I hope not. I like George Allen."

Q. What are your thoughts about satellite radio?

A. I think satellite radio is a new technology and it's going to build slowly. It's tough for me. I'm asked all the time if I'm going to satellite radio, and I've got 604 radio stations. I would cannibalize (myself) if I went to satellite radio. My audience is 22-24 million, and their subscription is like 3 million people. That's pretty small. The question is, they have a pretty big debt load and you've got two satellite companies. At some point, it's possible there will be a new technology that is going to come along and surpass them before they can retire their debt load, like podcasting. I wish them the best, because it's more opportunities for people, but it's going to be a slow build. It's like satellite TV. They have a lot of subscribers and it's taken a lot of years to get there, but they still don't reach the nation.

Q. Have either of the satellite radio companies approached you?

A. They've approached everyone. There's no business reason to do it. It makes no business sense. My radio station, I've been with them for 18-to-20 years and I value them too much to make the program available somewhere else. It would just undercut them.

Q. Who are your top three Femi-Nazis?

A. Betty Friedan, Catharine MacKinnon and Gloria Steinem.

Q. Why those three?

A. Well they're the founding …They're the founders. How can you call them mothers?

Q. Who do you think will be the GOP's candidate for president in 2008?

A. This is the first year I can remember, the first election that there's no acknowledged frontrunner. It's wide open. A number of people think it will be McCain, I hope not. I like George Allen.

Q. Why not McCain?

A. I don't think he's conservative, pure and simple.

Q. You have big galleries, how much of a hard time do they give you when you hit to the left?

A. I'm fortunate, I can't hear all that stuff anymore, but I'm sure they're out there. But everyone here is as nice as can be. There aren't any hecklers out there.

Q. One year you were able to play with Arnold Palmer. How was that?

A. That is indescribable. You stay out of the way. The galleries love him, he loves the game. It was a real once-in-a-lifetime experience. That's the great thing about this game. It's the only game where you can play with the pros on their field while they're playing. And sometimes you'll hit a shot they wished they had.
