Kaine added, "I want a senator who can look you in the eye and say he will be a senator for a full term." As we all know, George Allen is bored in the Senate and doesn't want to be there anymore. Apparently, that's why he's running for reelection. Ha ha. Seriously, though, George Allen wants to be President, just like the guy he votes with 97% of the time - George W. Bush.
That's great, of course, if you think Bush is doing a great job and the country is headed in the right direction. If you want "more of the same" in Iraq, on the economy, in dealing with natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina, on the budget, on the environment, etc., etc., then by all means George Allen is your man! If not, then you've got a great alternative this year, a former Navy Secretary, war hero, author, and journalist by the name of Jim Webb.
With the help of Governor Kaine, former Governor Warner, and many other great Virginians, we can defeat George Allen this November. And we MUST defeat George Allen, for the future of our freedom, our constitution, and our country.
Cheers,
Kevin
It doesn't bother me that Webb doesn't support Kerry's withdraw proposal even if they campaigned together the last day of the primary; only 13 senators supported Kerry's plan and besides, Webb is admired in part because he's an independent thinker. I don't think Webb would support Kerry's plan because Webb thinks more time would be needed for withdraw. My best guess for why he wouldn't support the Levin-Reed plan is because it's too weak, although he didn't explicitly say he'd vote for it or not.
IMHO, I don't support a milestone-based withdraw because the success of those milestones, whether it be further elections or what have you, would be a huge factor. I support troop reduction starting today with 90-95% of the troops out by Jan. 1, 2008. The remaining troops can stay for security training, military advising and other non-combative services. If all American troops are doing in Iraq are to "get the terrorists and insurgants," then it's time to leave because that's not possible or our responsibility.
What Dems need to unite on now is attacking the GOP's rhetoric of "we'll stay as long as it takes" and "stay the course." As long as what takes?! Stay what course?! And expose GOP's real plan for US to stay in Iraq indefinitely.
