George Allen to the working class: $5.15 an hour is good enough for you!

Today, George Allen joined 45 other Republican Senators in voting against an amendment that would have raised the federal minimum wage.  The federal minimum wage has been frozen at $5.15 an hour since 1997, despite the need to address the impact of the rise in the cost of living (and especially the rise in the cost of housing) on the working class.

We should be proud that not a single Democrat voted against this amendment.  We should also be proud that Virginia+óGé¼Gäós Republican Senior Senator, John Warner, actually voted FOR the increase.  Warner joined only 6 other Republicans to support the amendment, but it failed to receive the necessary 60 votes to ensure passage.
As more and more jobs are lost as more corporations go overseas (or in the case of George Allen donor, Smithfield Foods, hire illegal aliens) how are the working class of Virginia going to be able to support their families?  As George +óGé¼+ôI was in Iowa during my gestation+óGé¼-¥ Allen touts his credentials as a public servant, he clearly rejects the principle of fairness that Jim Webb has repeated time and time again. If the working class is the most endangered group in America (as Jim Webb contends), why is it such a burden to give them something back?  After all, this isn+óGé¼Gäót a tax increase we are talking about, this is just a measure of fairness.  Even John Warner figured that one out.

Of course, unlike Allen, John Warner doesn+óGé¼Gäót spend every day blabbing his moronic opinions on television-news shows, or keeping track of where he was during his +óGé¼+ôgestation+óGé¼-¥ period, so maybe he had more time to think about how this issue is important to the citizens of Virginia.

Teddy's bill actually took inflation into account with percentage minimum wage increases over a set series of years. But that darn "Death Tax" is such a more important issue for the GOP; I mean, what'll happen to poor Paris Hilton if she doesn't inherit all her millions?

Or Donald Trump (Dan - 6/21/2006 10:59:56 PM)
Working class Republicans are desperate to help Donald Trump!

As more and more jobs are lost as more corporations go overseas

Allen is one of the majority of politicians promoting Globalism.

One of the primary functions of globalism is the free movement of labor across national borders.

The hidden "guest worker" provisions of the current "amnesty" immigration bills will make temporary employment visas virtually unlimited and provide a fast track to citizenship affecting over one million American middle-class jobs per year. High tech and engineering jobs are the hardest hit, but all professional jobs are on the line.

Allen is co-sponsor of Cornyn's "SKIL Bill" S.2691 which is the back-up plan for this same labor arbitrage (actually WORSE) in the event that S.2611 fails.

The American press does not visit this issue.

The SKIL (Securing Knowledge Innovation and Leadership) Bill which was introduced recently by Senator Mr John Cornyn proposes exemptions for US educated foreign workers with advanced degrees in math, science, technology and engineering fields from the H-1B and EB quotas so that their talent could be retained in the US.

Other provisions include creation of a flexible, market-based H-1B cap; extension of foreign students' post-curricular optional practical training from 12 months to 24 months to allow them to go more easily from student to green card; and exemptions for EB/green card immigrant spouses and children from the annual cap.

I don't know how else to put it.

This vote is something we should turn into a banner about how Allen could care less about Virginians.
