Utter Republican Hypocrisy on Immigration

As we all know, Republican politicians these days love to bash immigrants, with one of their favorite, focus-group-tested tag lines being, "what part of illegal don't you understand." Just to show what a crock o' crap this is, you've got to read today's Washington Post lead story, entitled "Illegal Hiring Is Rarely Penalized: Politics, 9/11 Cited in Lax Enforcement."
Here's the bottom line:
The Bush administration, which is vowing to crack down on U.S. companies that hire illegal workers, virtually abandoned such employer sanctions before it began pushing to overhaul U.S. immigration laws last year...
Between 1999 and 2003, work-site enforcement operations were scaled back 95 percent by the Immigration and Naturalization Service, which subsequently was merged into the Homeland Security Department...
That's right. Under the Bush Administration and Republican Congress, the borders have been thrown wide open to massive immigration, at the same time that these same Republicans are busy bashing immigrants. Complete and utter hypocrisy. Throw the bums out!

Republicans are all talk, no action on illegal immigration (Dan - 6/19/2006 8:52:37 AM)
Great post Lowell! Why is it I always hear it is "liberals" who want to open up our borders and welcome illegals with open arms? I heard from numerous conservatives who say it is "liberals" who want to destroy American culture. Yet, it seems that Republicans are all talk on illegal immigration, and no action.
I think border security is a GREAT idea. For one thing, it stops people from crossing the border. Yet, Republicans seem to have no record on illegal immigration. People still come over, and Republican campaign donors, still provide them jobs.
I think we need to take a look at Republican-passed policies on illegal immigration, and Republican votes on immigration. Then we need to look at our Democratic reps. How do these records compare?

Visa overstays account for
approximately 45% of illegals in the US. A bigger fence does nothing about this part of the issue.

Labor Dept Hypocrisy, Too (Ranger - 6/19/2006 6:47:04 PM)
The Labor Department, headed by the wife of a prominent Republican senator, leases about 80,000 square feet of expensive office space in Roslyn, Virginia, where the offices are cleaned each night by -- drumroll, please -- illegal aliens. Republican hypocrisy, business as usual.
