Nicholas F. Benton of the Falls Church News-Press : +óGé¼+ôJim Webb+óGé¼Gäós thoughtful and understated campaign style seemed to grow on people throughout the primary. The voters sensed that Jim Webb has a strong sense of personal integrity and serious convictions about the economy and war in Iraq. Virginia voters have an affinity toward independent thinking representatives with personal integrity, and Jim Webb is a great Democratic choice who will match up very well against George Allen.+óGé¼-¥

The towering intellects at Redstate : I hopped over to Jim's website to get his take on the issues of the day.  Tragically, it seems Jim isn't up for outlining positions, preferring to toss forth empty phrases and rhetoric in place of policy.  Sad what Democrats can do to a man.  (See you chumps in November)

Seth McLaughlin at Washington Times : Hopefuls' marriage views may clinch Senate race. Mr. Webb, who supported Mr. Allen in 2000, said the vote was another political ploy meant to excite the Republican Party's conservative base and distract voters from the growing national debt, the war in Iraq and issues along the U.S.-Mexican border.

Wapo "The Fix" Blog : The Fix's take: Webb can win this race, but he remains largely unproven at the moment.

Blade : Webb wins, but gay Democratic group endorsed opponent.

Seth McLaughlin at Washington Times Quotes Webb :
"I believe very strongly that we do not belong as an occupying power in that part of the world. Strategically, I don't think we have any value of having American forces there right now."
He added that once the United States shows that it has no intention of long-term occupation, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Jordan should become "involved overtly in the diplomatic process."
"Those countries have their own incentives to step forward and be part of the process," he said. "They are eventually going to have to solve their own problems."

dump update: Plain Dealer on Dems (loboforestal - 6/17/2006 12:26:28 PM)

Cleveland Plain Dealer :
But [Webb's] accomplishments, combined with his anti-Iraq-war record, made him, in the Democratic leadership's eyes, the better opponent for staunch war-supporting Republican Sen. George Allen.
