"Jim Webb's victory [Tuesday] is a victory for Virginia's netroots," wrote "Rob" on a Virginia liberal blog called Raising Kaine. "Virginia's progressive blogosphere was not thrilled with the default candidate emerging earlier this year. So... they drafted a Reagan Republican with a stellar resume to run as a Democrat and propelled him to victory in the primary.... As with Tim Kaine's victory last year, the candidate of Virginia's progressive blogosphere has won."
Congratulations to Rob! Oh, and the rest of the article is interesting as well, including this 'graf:
Webb's win also marks the second victory in two weeks for the Democrats' increasingly vocal (and anti-war) bloggers. On the heels of Jon Tester's (D) resounding win in the Montana Senate primary, and the YearlyKos weekend convention in Las Vegas, party strategists have launched a full-scale courtship of bloggers as a serious force in +óGé¼Gäó06 and beyond. "How many bloggers we got here?" Webb asked Tuesday night, prompting a huge cheer from his crowd of 200 supporters. (About 25 were bloggers, according to Hotline spies).
There were Hotline spies at the victory party Tuesday night? Damn, if I had known that, I would have changed out of my sweaty clothes from working the polls all day! :)
P.S. Go Ned Lamont and the Progressive blogs in Connecticut, where I grew up from ages 6 to 18.
BTW - such marriages are not all that unusual in Washington, although far more often the politically active spouse is a Republican. You could check the wives of Ron Brownstein and Howard Kurtz as two examples where the wife is a Republican operative.
