Classy

From the Harris Miller for Senate campaign. Very classy...I'm impressed!
Let me begin by saying thank you to everyone who worked so hard on this campaign.
Jim Webb is going to be a great United States Senator, and I'm going to do everything I can to help him get there! He ran a great campaign, and I'm looking forward to campaigning with him over the next few months. Because at the end of the day, while Jim and I may disagree on some things, we absolutely agree on this - it's time to bring real change to Washington, and that change MUST begin with replacing George Allen in the United States Senate.
It's time for a change in Washington, and with all of our hard work, Jim Webb will bring that change, because Jim Webb is no sunshine patriot. He knows firsthand the price and peril of war, and as his son heads off to serve our country in Iraq, we send our thoughts and prayers with him. Jim knows, as we do, that this is no game - our country needs leaders right now, not politicians. And Jim knows, as we do, that our state needs a full-time Senator, asking the tough questions. Not a full-time candidate trying to climb the political ladder, while Virginia's families get left behind.
Please take a moment to visit Jim's website, http://www.webbforsenate.com, and give him your support.
This has been a spirited primary. But I believe that the Virginia Democratic Party is stronger tonight because of this contest.
Just a few short months ago, when I got into this race, people thought I was crazy. "No one is going to beat George Allen," they said.
But during the course of this campaign, something happened that the pundits didn't see coming. Virginians began to realize that George Allen had gone to Washington and become part of the problem. They made it clear that they were not impressed with his record of voting with George Bush 97% of the time. And they began to send a message to Mr. Allen - you may be eager to spend a lot of time in Iowa and South Carolina, but first you're going to have to answer for failing the families of Virginia.
Something else happened along the way - Virginia Democrats got energized. Virginia Democrats have shown that we know how to bring people together to get things done. And this November, we're going to prove it again!
Thank you all so much. I'm proud to be a Virginian - and I'm proud to be a Virginia Democrat.
Sincerely,
Harris Miller

Time to take on the REAL enemy, George Allen and the GOP.
All is forgiven, on my end. (thaddaeus toad - 6/14/2006 4:33:56 PM)
In fact, I feel somewhat ashamed of many things I have said about Miller, and during the course of debates with his advocates. My desire to win, and the fear of losing, allowed me to justify some vitriolic rhetoric. In many ways, Miller brought this upon himself, but I should not have lost sight of the fact that we would have to come together after the primary. I hope that we can do that. We must, and as Democrats, I know we will.
Thanks Harris.
See you in 2008.
I totally agree with you. (phriendlyjaime - 6/14/2006 4:42:38 PM)
We should take turns smacking each other when I get home. ;)
BTW (phriendlyjaime - 6/14/2006 4:51:57 PM)
in case anyone doesn't get that, Thadd and I live together.
And we have said some pretty horrible things about Miller and his staff. I am being serious when I say I am humbled by his class act behavior, thankful for his support, and welcoming to his supporters.
Gotta say it, Millers got Stones (JMariner - 6/14/2006 4:35:48 PM)
I hope he and his supporters give as much help to Webb as they did to Miller.
Hey, What are the chances of a dollar raised is a dollar matched fundraiser for Webb paid for by Miller? uh.. maybe not.
illegal (not gretchen bulova - 6/14/2006 4:56:09 PM)
Can't be more than $2100
Beautiful. (phriendlyjaime - 6/14/2006 4:41:35 PM)
Super classy. I hope it brings people together.
I am truly humbled by Harris's generosity and kind words.
ok (TurnVirginiaBlue - 6/14/2006 4:47:21 PM)
Just don't let Miller influence or write any policy with respect to economics, labor, offshore outsourcing, immigration, insourcing or trade and I'll be fine.
I personally believe this is why Miller lost and I would FLIP OUT if he had any influence whatsoever in this arena while joining forces to beat Allen.
Sorry but scares me!

the link to Jim's site doesn't work. Does it work from the actual email Harris sent out (I assume this came from an email he sent out to his supporters, volunteers, and staff) or is it just messed up here?
Somehow a comma slipped in there... (Lowell - 6/14/2006 4:58:32 PM)
..not in the original e-mail, apparently. It's gone now.
Very cool. (phriendlyjaime - 6/14/2006 5:00:55 PM)
Thanks Lowell! :)
Classy indeed (JennyE - 6/14/2006 5:21:46 PM)
Thank you Harris Miller. I wouldn't mind seeing a unified Miller and Webb on stage at various campaign events though. Won't that be something?

The new Democratic special ops team. G'night, George.
I don't know who (PaulVa - 6/14/2006 6:44:50 PM)
Miller's fundraiser is. Nor who coordinated his attack ads. But I have to admit, those people need to come on over. They were very very effective and saavy.
Virginian's hate negative ads. (Left Wing - 6/14/2006 9:09:31 PM)
I think those attack ads hurt him.
RE: Harris Miller (JPTERP - 6/14/2006 7:52:50 PM)
A very large-hearted, high-minded concession on Miller's part. It's support like this that will beat Allen in November.
Yes, Miller is a Class Act (AnonymousIsAWoman - 6/14/2006 9:47:34 PM)
I am grateful for the very gracious concession. It's time to unite. There were issues that I disagreed with him on. Notably, the outsourcing. But he and his campaign staff and supporters can bring a lot of value to the table too.
I hope we all truly unite and move on to the real opponent.
I am glad Webb was chosen (thegools - 6/14/2006 10:01:21 PM)
and I am very pleased by the gracious, humble, and healing comments Miller has made at the conclusion of this race.
I think he has taught me a lot about how even a heated race can result in a stronger candidates, and a stronger party.
He has shown class and true good will.
