The calm before the storm...

My, what a long and troubled road we have all traveled on together over the past few months. We certainly have been loud on the way, huh? I have a feeling some of us will hold grudges for years to some, and some of us will forget about this experience in a few short weeks. Some will forever remember that they were called a less than mature name, and some of us wish they could forget some things they have said, myself included. In less than 36 hours, we will know the name of the candidate who will represent the Democratic party of Virginia in our Senate race against George Allen. This is now the countdown to the longest 36 hours since November 2, 2004. Hopefully, I will not be a sopping wet mess, drinking too much wine, crying about being robbed, and leaving work early the next day to cope with my concession depression. But I can't promise you anything, so I won't even try.
Today, I will be at Sine's in Richmond for Jim Webb's rally/lunch. Then, I will make the drive to Arlington to see two of my favorite American heroes, John Kerry and Jim Webb. Upon completion of the event, Thadd and I will be driving back to Richmond and phone banking. After phonebanking, I will be dropping lit in more places, getting my signs ready for early morning planting, and I will then work the polls from 12:30pm until they close. Then it's off to the victory party. We'll see how good the party is; at this point, I am just too exhausted to speculate.
I hope to see you in Arlington, and I hope everyone does their part in some way to GOTV. I hope that tonight, when I check RK after this busy and important day, that there are only trolls posting. Why? Because we all need to buck up and get the REAL WORK done. This is it, pholks; it's here. We've yelled, bickered, laughed, hung out, marched, rallied, dropped lit, phone banked, and here we are. This truly is the calm before the storm.
And no matter what you take from this experience, what I have seen the most is the many sights and sounds of an emerging popular party. Good or bad, happy or sad, positive or negative, whatever the feeling; this is what democracy looks like.
I wish you all well. Good luck.
