I just sent the following out to 21 friends.  Eight have told me they will vote for Webb.  I have just picked up another two disillusioned Allen voters with this.

Please feel free to use this email.

Friends and Family,

On Tuesday, June 13th, the Democratic party is holding a primary vote for its Senate nominee.

I realize some of you (my Republican friends) may wonder why I'm including you on this list--the reason: You have the opportunity to vote for a supremely qualified candidate who will represent the interests of Virginia voters in the broadest sense--Democrat, Independent, and Republican.  The Democratic primary like all Virginia primaries is open to all registered voters.

For my Democratic friends, I direct you to a piece written by Joe Klein in a recent
publication of Time Magazine.  The question he poses: Does the Democratic party have "the expansive soul to become a majority party again":

It's a challenge that I hope we're up to.

The candidate that I am backing is Jim Webb--a former Navy Secretary, decorated Vietnam Veteran, author, and Emmy award winning journalist--a man called by UVA's poli-sci Dean Larry Sabato "George Allen's worst nightmare".  ("Jim Webb is George Allen's worst nightmare: a war hero and a Reagan appointee who holds moderate positions. . . Allen tries to project a Reagan aura, but Webb already has it. University of Virginia political analyst Larry Sabato [Time, 5/7/06])

I've spent the last few weeks working the phones, bombarding friends with emails, and giving some hard earned cash--because I firmly believe Jim Webb's candidacy represents a unique opportunity for Virginians of all political stripes.  It is my sincere hope that we don't let this opportunity pass us by.

Most pundits expect that this primary will be decided by about 150,000 votes--so your vote WILL have an impact.  Right now, Webb's inside poll numbers show he has a slight advantage with active Democratic primary voters, but it's anyone's guess how this will play out in an open primary.

If you have any questions about Webb--please feel free emailing me.  I've done a lot of due diligence on him and his Democratic opponent.

Voter location information is available at:

Thank you for your time, consideration, and vote.  Let's not let this great opportunity
pass us by.

Sincerely,
Jim
