Miller Campaign is Breaking the Law

There's no question about it, the Miller campaign is breaking the law.  I got back about an hour ago from driving around Arlington, and what did I see?  Miller signs EVERYWHERE, including many more than the "2 per median strip" that are supposed to be the limit.  What did I NOT see?  Webb signs, which had just been there yesterday.

OK, let's throw this evidence to the jury:

*Webb signs there yesterday
*Webb signs gone today
*Dozens of Miller signs put in place of previously standing Webb signs
*This has been going on for weeks now

Is there any doubt in anyone's mind that the Miller campaign is breaking the law?  Oh wait, let me guess, the Miller campaign's going to claim that the wind just happens to blow away the Webb signs while miraculously leaving Miller signs standing?  Or, maybe they'll spread the story around to the Republican Times-Dispatch and the blogs that the Allen campaign is pulling out Webb signs and replacing them with Miller signs?  Those dastardly Republicans!

OK, jury, what's the verdict?  I vote "guilty as charged."

The unfair & negative tactics DISGUST me (Alicia - 6/10/2006 2:55:25 PM)
If Miller somehow lies and buys this primary, I will not vote for such filth.
His anti-jew crap, compiled with the last three months, and now this.
May Webb Prevail!!!  Our country needs him and his HONESTY and INTEGRITY.

I Just Finished (Mark - 6/10/2006 3:27:10 PM)
the 8th placement of signs on US 60 in Cumberland. In ten days, over 24 signs have disappeared from that same private property location. (Al Weed and Jim Webb)

We have reported the thefts to the Sheriffs, so the only tactic we have left is videotape.

Down here, I think it is the GoOPers that are doing it. Nothing here for Miller; zip, zilch, nada. He never asked me to hang signs, he never sent more literature or emailed me about anything.

I am going to catch someone. And when I do, I will 'fax the world' with the news. I am seriously shaking-and-stammering pissed off. Not a good sign for the rest of the summer. And not a good position for the thieves, either.

I like using (Arturo - 6/10/2006 4:44:48 PM)
a camera or two myself.  I have two friends set up with video cams in areas where Webb signs constantly get stolen in Arlington.  When I catch them, I will share it with the police and post the video here.  This could get very interesting...

There are a lot of techies working on the campaign due to their awareness of the "Miller agenda".

Maybe you can get them to set up a series of webcams and other easy to do, cheapo surveillance and catch them red handed.

There are plenty of free and shareware programs out there that run on a PC, will turn a Logitech webcam (or any 15 dollar PC camera to a very expensive one) into a surveillance system.

Then there are other small devices that you can just "set"
set a timer on them and since they run on batteries they are good to go for numerous hours taking a shot every second or so.

EVERY campaign has signs that disappear (tofitz - 6/10/2006 3:37:19 PM)
Using your logic, I will contend that the Webb campaign has also BROKEN THE LAW. I had two Miller signs removed from my yard the other day.
But I'm not actually claiming that Webb campaign BROKE THE LAW.  These things happen.  Lawn Signs disappear.

Last fall there were Kaine signs illegally placed all over the place.  But was I naive enough to claim the Kaine campaign BROKE THE LAW?

It's time to grow up.  I was undecided about this race until about two weeks ago.  What turned me off about Webb?
a) he seems to be a one issue candidate
b) his supporters seem very immature and childish.  I didn't want to be associated with that.

Oh really? (Craig - 6/10/2006 3:44:40 PM)
So what's his "one issue?"  The war?  Come on man, you know that's not true.

And we may seem "childish," on occasion, but hasn't it occured to you what a bad idea it is to run a lobbyist for senate?  Jesus, Allen will almost wet his pants with glee.  Then the GOP can traipse around saying "See, the Democrats are corrupt lobbyists too."  And that's the end of the race, with Allen winning.

Oh yeah, and sincer yer a Miller person, give me a reaosn to like him better.  Convince me that he has a better shot at Allen than Webb does.  And convince me why Kerry, Wes Clark, and Leslie Byrna can;t be trusted when they say he's the real thing.

If Allen beats Miller he also has a new applause line for his Presidential campaign... (Loudoun County Dem - 6/10/2006 3:51:45 PM)
about how he kept another lobbyist out of Washington (innoculating himself from the corrupt lobbyist/republicans story).

There is NO upside to a Harris Miller win Tuesday.

Your Comment (Mark - 6/10/2006 3:44:41 PM)
hardly merits a response, but I will mention one thing; both the Kaine2005 and the Coordinated campaign had sign permit numbers right there on the sign.

You carp unpleasantly. If you can't see that Webb is the better candidate, and will base your decision on your opinion of maybe 2-3% of Webb supporters that are on this site, then I have to wonder about your state of mind.

We're full up here, go sell crazy somewhere else.

That's the kind of reasoning used in DC (Kathy Gerber - 6/10/2006 4:06:09 PM)
EVERYBODY pays to play, EVERYBODY goes for the loophole, etc.

And if you don't want to be associated with "that" this is not the place to be.

A little over the top... (cvitter - 6/10/2006 3:37:41 PM)
It is wrong that people are taking down candidate signs. But it is over the top to suggest that this is an organized effort on the part of the Miller campaign to replace Webb signs with Miller signs. The title of this post would suggest that there is some evidence to what you are saying but I do not see it.

Seriously, go out, get the evidence and report the violations to the police.

It seems more like that this is the action of a few overzealous supporters, not an organized effort on behalf on Miller's campaign staff.

I know that you do not like Miller and do not plan on voting for him Tuesday but the vitriol flying about on the pro-Webb blogs is going to come back and haunt the party if Miller wins. What will the pro-Webb camp do? Vote for Allen in November?

Disappearing signs (Greg Kane - 6/10/2006 6:11:09 PM)
I tend to agree with Mark, it is most likely that Republicans are making this happen. Leaving Miller signs is consistent with their objective - to promote the weaker candidate. Taking down all the signs promotes low turn-out - also a benefit to Miller.

From the Bob Gibson Blog at Dailyprogress.com:
"Larry J. Sabato, director of the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics, said in the past 10 days three of his former students who are Republicans and supporting Allen have told him that they are planning to vote Tuesday for Miller 'and so are their friends. They say they fear Webb and believe Miller can easily be beaten by Allen.'”

Miller appears to be sticking mostly with the racist card at the moment in terms of slime politics.
