My Letter to the Daily Press

Editors:

I am writing, as an individual citizen, to endorse Jim Webb in Tuesday+óGé¼Gäós Democratic primary. I am motivated because of the mailers and automatic phone calls hitting our homes suggesting Jim Webb is really not a Democrat. I urge everyone to reject this hollow claim and support his candidacy.

Holding Bush to account will only be done by electing a Democratic Congress this fall. Many reasonable and pragmatic people are +óGé¼+ôcoming home+óGé¼-¥ to the Democratic Party out of disgust with the utter failures of the Bush Administration. We must hold them accountable for their ineptitude and incompetence at basic governance, their needless, bloody and grossly mismanaged war, the corruption and so many other contemptible policies.

This same allegation was leveled towards General Wesley Clark in his presidential run of 2004.  Since then, General Clark has proven it was false and it is equally false about Webb today. To govern, Democrats have to win elections. Putting up a +óGé¼+ônot welcome+óGé¼-¥ sign at the front door of our Party is only a formula for not gaining the requisite majority status. General Clark, Secretary Webb and millions like them are coming home to the Democratic Party. I welcome them, and along with long standing Democrats, we will rescue our republic from the GOP and build a better Democratic Party. We currently have one faux cowboy in the White House. Together, we can end the presidential hopes of another this November by nominating +óGé¼+ôGeorge Allen+óGé¼Gäós worst nightmare+óGé¼-¥, Jim Webb.

Miller paid for spin machine (TurnVirginiaBlue - 6/9/2006 10:39:11 PM)
Very nice letter.  Miller is in full force.

I have no idea what's going on in this guy's mind.  He cannot beat Allen, so all he is doing is smearing the guy who can.

But, then his ability to be strategic, even in ITAA long term agenda hasn't been to swift.

Firing the very people who build up the technology sector and replacing all of that talent and exposing it to labor arbitrage didn't exactly create the next wave of profit making innovation now did it?

Maybe Miller's drunk his own Kool-Aid (Craig - 6/10/2006 1:25:11 AM)
I myself have been wondering why Miller seems so desperate to be a placeholder, since he has to know, deep down, that he doesn't have the scrappy, sincere appeal of Tim Kaine, the shrewd, easygoing manner of Mark Warner, or the personal gravitas of Jim Webb.

Or so I thought.

But the more I hear Miller, the more I begin to think he's drunk his own Kool-Aid; now he truly seems to believe that he really is all those guys and more, and that he really can beat Allen with his boilerplate plus policy paper schtick.

I doubt Miller will win either the primary or the general.  And it basically boils down to 2 reasons:
- he trashed a fellow Democrat in the primary, while keeping mum about why we should like him any better.

- He hasn't really bothered to try to get to know rural Virginia (like Warner), and he hasn't bothered asking the exurbs what he can do for them (like Kaine).  He'll need one of those groups to win statewide.

Terrific Letter. (Susan Mariner - 6/11/2006 11:54:58 AM)
Thanks, Charlie!

Great letter! (Kathy Gerber - 6/11/2006 6:52:11 PM)
And thanks :)
