The Lynchburg Voters League Throws Support Behind Webb
Today, the Lynchburg Voters League endorsed Democratic Senate Candidate Jim Webb for United States Senate. The Lynchburg Voters League is an organization that focuses primarily on the registration, education and participation of African American and minority voters.
"Jim Webb is a principled, well-rounded candidate who can appeal to every voter in Virginia, especially within the African-American community," said Sherry Diggs, Secretary of the Lynchburg Voters League. +óGé¼+ôThe Lynchburg Voters League urges all registered voters to vote for James Webb because he has the best chance to defeat George Allen in November.+óGé¼-¥
In addition to the Lynchburg Voters League, Webb has amassed significant support from many African American leaders in Virginia, including Richmond-area Virginia Delegate Donald McEachin, former Chairman of the Virginia unit of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference Milton Reid and Lt. Gen. Frank Petersen, the highest ranking African American in Marine Corps history.
"The work of the Lynchburg Voters League is critical to ensure that all people are represented in our democracy," said Webb. "I+óGé¼Gäóm honored to have their endorsement."

I think when anyone concerned about inclusion, equal opportunity and diversity issues and then checks Miller's record they will find his "sound bytes" do not match his actions.
Webb on the other hand, has actions that back up his words about fighting for the disadvantaged and being about fairness.
I personally find it so insulting that Miller tries to play the race card when his track record as a lobbyist has disproportionately, through insourcing (H-1B, L-1, F-4, H-2B, H-2C) and offshore outsourcing discriminated against American minorities and women. Age discrimination is now institutionalized in many corporations and it is especially odious and obvious in the high tech professions.
Miller was a disaster. (loboforestal - 6/9/2006 5:48:07 PM)
Supporting Webb is a smart move.

This very good news. I too find it insulting that Miller plays the race card, under any circumstance, but especially where, as you wisely observe, his championing of "insourcing-outsourcing" discriminates against so many folks: minorities, women, and middle-class middle-aged folks of all colors, races, and ethnicities. He has run a campaign that is straight out of Karl Rove's playbook, but it is beginning to back-fire on him big time! I have a little Japanese carry out stand I go to near work, and the guy that owns it sees my Webb hat (yes, there are some from the "Draft" days) and says, "Webb is going to win". Why do you say that I ask? He replies, "The other guy is so negative and I am just so sick and tired of seeing it on TV. and getting stuff in the mail that I would never vote for him". He continues, "I did my homework and checked out both of them and that guy Miller is a liar". I told he better make sure he takes his wife to the polls with him on Tuesday. I left him 100 of the new handouts he eagerly took them to pass out to his customers.
The answer is to get 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 (Lowell - 6/9/2006 6:07:44 PM)
of your friends, family, neighbors, co-workers to vote for Jim Webb. Tell them that Harris Miller is the "Democratic" re-incarnation of Jerry Kilgore and Lee Atwater all rolled into one. Tell them that Jim Webb is the great hope for Democrats to become a majority party again, to defeat George Allen, and to take back our country. Tell them that time is short, and we need not only a win, but a CRUSHING VICTORY over Miller and his minions on Tuesday.
Also, grab some Webb flyers and head... (Lowell - 6/9/2006 6:08:34 PM)
to a Metro stop, festival, or anywhere a lot of people gather. Tell them that "Jim Webb is George Allen's Worst Nightmare."
and we will be at the wine/beer fest tomorrow as well in carytown, doing the same. (phriendlyjaime - 6/9/2006 6:09:15 PM)
Thadd and I will be doing visibility on the fan and downtown tonight (phriendlyjaime - 6/9/2006 6:08:38 PM)
Let you know how it goes. Any good, original ideas?

It's easy to dismiss Lynchburg as "Falwell's city", but the leadership there is just amazing.
Thanks, Lynchburg!
