Flash! New Caricature of Harris Miller Released by Webb Campaign

Can you believe this?  First, the Webb campaign issues a comic strip that lampoons Harris Miller by drawing him to look JUST LIKE HE ACTUALLY LOOKS!  Disgraceful.  Now, rumor has it that ANOTHER caricature of Harris Miller, possibly - this is NOT confirmed, nor will it ever be - by the Webb campaign as well (or maybe a volunteer, or maybe not, who knows?) has hit the streets.  Study that image at the top left of this article.  Is that a disgrace or what?  Here's just a small sample of the reaction pouring into the RK and Webb for Senate switchboards (note: we don't have switchboards, but whatever):

"This cartoon is patently offensive to all Muppets and also to the people who love them.  Given the terrible discrimination Muppets and those who love them continue to face in our society, this cartoon  demonstrates a tremendous lack of sensitivity on the part of the anti-Muppet (and those who love them) Webb campaign.  We demand an apology to Muppets, and to those who love them, everywhere!" - American Muppet Anti-Defamation League

"The cartoon (allegedly) created by the Jim Webb for Senate campaign disturbs us greatly. As professional cartoonists from the South Asia region, we feel that we should have been consulted and paid large sums of money - but not as large as if the Muppet had been made in America - to produce this cartoon by Chinese, Indian, and Bangladeshi professionals like us, not by American amateurs.  Instead, the Webb campaign has decided to "insource" the job to Appalachia or wherever - in America!  As professional cartoonists and caricaturists who happen to live in China, India, or Bangladesh, we are outraged!  - The Professional Cartoonist and Caricaturist Defense Council, South Asia Chapter

"The Miller campaign is disgusted, outraged and shocked - SHOCKED, we tell you! - by this cartoon.  Sure, it may not be misgonystic, racist, or homophobic, but our (highly) paid staffers are hard at work racking our brains to think of SOME way we can use this dastardly Muppet caricature to attack Jim Webb.  And trust us, we will.  Whether it be ACTUALLY anti-Semitic, or merely anti-puppetry, we will not stand for it.

In addition, we are deeply concerned that this Muppet character was not produced at the lowest possible wage rates by slave labor in China, India, or Bangladesh.  If Harris Miller is nominated on Tuesday, he will make this a major campaign theme in coming months:  Muppets are part of the precious system of globalization, and should not be tampered with or denigrated in any way.  However, we DO plan to data mine their records, as well as the records of the people who created them."  - The Miller campaign

It's Mr EraserHead (kevinceckowski - 6/9/2006 8:42:33 AM)
It's Mr Eraser-Head.  Does that mean he can switch positions whenever he wants to?  What about that out-sourcing in the Post today?  "Let me erase that and say something positive" about sending all of Virginia's jobs overseas.  What about minimum wage?  "Oh that can be written into the contracts" at a later date, "I want to protect the workers" of Virginia.  Enough already.

Laughter is good. kc

Right on (Nichole - 6/9/2006 9:29:07 AM)
Yes.... he actually may have more of a neck than Miller.
Let's get some glasses on Mr. EraserHead :) And OH get him a hybrid car!

They are terribly upset at this use of puppetry for political gain.  You will be getting cease and desist order shortly.

My law degree and practice is based around Muppet Defamation.  And you sir have gone too far!!!

Someone has their hand up my back. Just moving me around at will, makes me nauseated some times, and my eyes grow larger than life.  My nose is red for purely allergy reasons and the tie, from the 60s, my favorite however I love patriotic themes better.

Laugh and keep your eyes on the prize at the same time. Distorting Jim's image is destroying the Dems too.

Laugh a little.  We have been pent up too long. kc

Kevin, to reply to another person's comment... (Lowell - 6/9/2006 11:45:50 AM)
please hit "reply." It's confusing when people don't do that.  Thanks. - Lowell

With all due respect... (Pat - 6/9/2006 12:21:55 PM)
destroying Miller's image isn't doing us much good either.  Of course everybody wants their candidate to win but is this a cult of personality or do we really want to get that seat out of republican hands?  Other than that, laugh it up!  :o)

The "no sense of humor award" (Lowell - 6/9/2006 12:24:19 PM)
goes to "Pat." Congrulations, Pat! :)

PS  I'm sure you didn't think THAT was funny either.  Oh well.

Muppets (TurnVirginiaBlue - 6/9/2006 12:47:48 PM)
Clearly Muppets are over-represented in Congress since many of our congressional representatives are Muppets.
So, while Muppets may be a minority group in the general population, I see no reason to claim that Webb is being insensitive or wrongly characterizing a diversity group.  The Muppet characteristics, which are clearly defined by the number of strings attached to their mouths, hands and backs, are representative of the overall population in Washington.

Now if one wishes to draw a characterization of the men pulling the strings, that's another matter entirely for we know that the string pullers are truly a minority group and hence any characterization of them is bound to be racist.
