Webb and Hurst win straw polls in Fairfax

Tonight in Fairfax, the Fairfax County Young Democrats took a straw poll, and decided overwhelmingly that Jim Webb is the candidate they support next Tuesday.  Although only about 15 people or so voted, Webb got 75% of the votes, Miller got 20%, and the rest wrote in Chap Peterson.

In the same poll, people voted between Andrew Hurst and Ken Longmyer.  In this race, Andrew Hurst got 61%, but Ken Longmyer only barely edged out write-ins for Chap Peterson, with 23% of the vote to Chap Peterson's write-ins of 16%.

As for the Webb-Miller vote, if you do the math and it appears that Miller probably got only 3 votes.  Before the vote, each candidate had someone speak for them...expect for Harris Miller.
Well, that's not completely accurate, since someone who supports Webb, but likes both candidates (I can't imagine how that is possible at this point) went up and talked a little about Miller in a positive light.  He got booed.

A woman from the Longmyer campaign spoke for Ken, but specifically praised Andrew Hurst, and took pride in the fact that both campaigns in the 11th District had not been bashing one another.  (She didn't specifically mention the Webb-Miller race, but everyone knew what she was talking about).

Josh from Raising Kaine spoke passionately about his support for Webb, and James Walkinshaw of the Hurst campaign gave an excellent talk about Hurst...once again staying positive, and complimenting Ken Longmyer.

Obviously this small vote is not indicative of the overall voter opinion, but as for the support, we'll take it.

According to Virginia Progressive (Lowell - 6/8/2006 10:32:41 PM)
There were 25 people voting tonight:

15-Webb
5-Abstain
3-Miller
2-Chap!

Only 3 votes for Miller out of 25?  Ouch!!  Landslide for Webb, in other words.
