Warner makes the jump and takes first shot at Clinton?

Political observers have been waiting for the moment when one member of the group of 2008 Democratic presidential candidates not named Hillary Clinton would be the first to take a shot at the presumed front runner.  Last month Craig Crawford in the Congressional Quarterly went as far as to say the first of the group to go after Clinton would make the jump from running-mate in waiting to a legitimate presidential candidate.  Albeit at the expense of eliminating themselves as a possible running mate if Clinton were indeed to get the nomination.

As reported by the New York Times, in a television interview in New York last night many see Mark Warner as making that jump.

"I think Senator Clinton can be competitive across the country, but I think one of the things we as a party are going to have to do is look at the ideas on how we get the country back on the right track,"

We need to not simply look at the personality, but look at the ideas," he said. "But I find all across the country there is a real sense that what we as Democrats have to do is not simply be competitive in 16 or 17 states, but actually have candidates that can win all across the country."

Later, he added, "Simply having anger at Bush or his administration isn't going to get us there."
