Question du Jour

Why is it that everytime I go to an event and see Harris Miller, he's sort of wandering around aimlessly by himself, or maybe followed by 1 or 2 paid staffers? And why is it that whenever I see Jim Webb, he's always mobbed by excited people wanting to meet him, shake his hand, talk to him, be near him? Just curious...

has a laudatory piece on Miller on today's FP: (not on the website)
Headline: "Miller Preaches Loyalty As Democrat."
Wonder why he'd have to go to all that trouble? (/snark)

Miller doth protesteth too much (Lowell - 6/5/2006 9:12:41 AM)
Methinks. :)

Could it be... (Arturo - 6/5/2006 9:19:18 AM)
Webb has charisma?  Just asking.

Why can't Raising Kaine be a forum for all Democrats (Dave79 - 6/5/2006 9:26:46 AM)
A friend of mine told me that Raising Kaine was a great forum for Democrat politics in Virginia.  Having worked in Wisconsin on the Kerry campaign and moved back to Virginia, I was eager to see the views and share ideas with other progressive Dem's in the area.  Instead this site has become a forum for bashing this Miller guy.  The other day someone posted a comment that suggested that certain users be kicked off because they voiced pro Miller comments!  Yet pro Webb comments are fine.  I couldn't believe that.  I don't particularly support Miller, but shouldn't this be a forum where people can share their ideas instead of making it a Webb campaign site.  It's a sad sad day when Democrats start acting like Republicans and try to stifle out the views of others. I hope that somehow this changes and Democrats of all stripes are allowed to express their views instead of being threatned.

Everyone is welcome on this site. In fact... (Lowell - 6/5/2006 9:29:49 AM)
we have, on numerous occasions, invited pro-Miller people to come and be a "guest blogger" to make their case for Miller.  None have accepted, and instead, we've had a constant barrage of negativity.  One guy - and ONLY one guy - was banned from RK because of constant and repeated "trolling."  The main reason wasn't his views per se, but his complete hijacking of entire threads and the anger of many readers who had to put up with it.  I would point out that "trolls" are routinely banned at all major blogs, but so far we've only banned one and I hope we don't have to ban another one ever again.

I agree (d'moore - 6/5/2006 10:13:53 AM)
It's fine to have a point of view on a candidate but let's not get carried away to the point we turn off Virginia Democrats who don't support Webb.
I had a great time at the Herndon Fesitval handing out Webb information. I saw people with Miller info and talked with them without bashing Miller. People want to hear the good things about the person you support not the negatives about the other guy. People who were solidly for Miller I said I was glad they would be voting. Not trying to be a polyanna but at least some people are paying attention even if they are misguided.
The one-on-one conversations were just great. I am always amazed that people think you can't vote in a primary unless you are a registered Democrat. I talked to many people who consider themselves Democrats who weren't even aware of the primary. The more we can get out and talk to people, the better chance we have to get Jim elected. People were really impressed with his background and his endorsements. I also pointed out that if he wins, it means the party will put money into the race and that Georgie can be beat.

C'mon Lowell! (Dan - 6/5/2006 9:37:58 AM)
You know the answer to that, don't you?  Because money doesn't have legs.

But money talks, doesn't it? (Lowell - 6/5/2006 9:39:14 AM)
Or maybe it just has a big mouth? :)

Poor Harris (Dan - 6/5/2006 9:58:20 AM)
All he has is his money to talk for him, not thousands of volunteers.  I forgot to thank you for grilling this guy, and hopefully we will send him to political Valhalla!
